In some cultures, a surname, family name, or last name is the portion of one's personal name that indicates one's family, tribe or community. Practices vary by culture. Jekuthiel Blitz
Jekuthiel ben Isaac Blitz (b. Wittmund, Germany, ''fl.'' 1670s) was a rabbi who made the first whole translation of the Hebrew Bible into Yiddish. Blitz was a corrector of the press in the Hebrew printing-office of Uri Phoebus (Faibush) Halevi in Amsterdam and was commissioned by him to make a translation which finished printing in late 1678. The translation which was the first of its kind of the entire Old Testament has three introductions; one in Hebrew and one in German written by Blitz and the third in Judæo-German by the printer together with letters patent of the king of Poland Johann III Sobieski and approbations by various rabbis. Blitz also translated into Judæo-German Levi ben Gerson's "To'aliyyot" on Joshua, Judges, and Samuel, published together with the preceding work. Simon Blitz
Simon Blitz is an English businessman who is the former chairman of Oldham Athletic A.F.C., Oldham Athletic of Football League One. He is one of three businessmen who purchased Oldham in 2003, along with Simon Corney and Danny Gazal. On 7 July 2010, he stepped down as chairman of Oldham, along with Gazal, citing personal and economic reasons for his departure. Corney took over as chairman following his resignation. Blitz is quoted in a BBC Sport article about the matter: Both Blitz and Gazal were founders of Cellular Network Communications Group, an American-based mobile phone company. Rayner Blitz
Rayner John Blitz (born 25 March 1968 at Watford, Hertfordshire), was a cricketer who played five first-class matches and one List A match for Somerset in 1986. A diminutive wicketkeeper and right-handed batsman who had played for Essex's second eleven in 1985, Blitz was signed to cover for an injury to Trevor Gard, Somerset's regular wicketkeeper. He took eight catches in his five games and played for Somerset's second eleven across the summer. But the county was looking for a wicketkeeper who could make reliable runs as the long-term successor to Gard, and signed Neil Burns from Essex for the 1987 season. Julien Paul Blitz (May 21, 1885 – July 17, 1951) was an American cellist, conductor, and teacher. He was the first music director of the Houston Symphony. Biography Blitz was born in Ghent, Belgium, the son of violinist and martinist Edouard E. Blitz (1860–1915) and pianist Mattie Louise Miller (1865–1904). He moved to the United States with his family at the age of two. He began violin studies with his father, who had been appointed the first music director of the Kansas City Philharmonic. He commenced musical studies in 1901 at the Ghent Conservatory, where he studied with Paul-Henri-Joseph Lebrun, Joseph Lampens, Joseph Jacobs, Leon Rinskoph, and Edouard Jacobs. Johnny Blitz
John Madansky, known as Johnny Blitz, is a punk rock drummer from Cleveland, Ohio, best known as being a member of the bands Dead Boys and Rocket From The Tombs. With the Dead Boys he helped pioneer the punk rock sound, look and attitude of the mid to late 1970s. Early career Johnny Blitz met Cheetah Chrome through a classified ad, and together went on to play small gigs in short-lived bands. In early 1975, Blitz and Chrome were recruited to Rocket From the Tombs. The band broke up within the year. After the break up, Blitz and Chrome teamed up with singer Stiv Bators, rhythm guitarist Jimmy Zero, and bassist Jeff Magnum to form a band called Frankenstein. Jeffrey Blitz is an American film director, screenwriter and producer best known for the documentary '' Spellbound'' (2003), ''The Office'' (2007 - 2010), the fiction film '' Rocket Science'' (2007) and ''Comedy Central’s'' ''Review'' (2014 - 2017). Gérard Blitz (swimmer)
Gérard Blitz (1 August 1901 – 8 March 1979) was a Belgian Olympic swimmer and water polo player who competed at the 1920, 1924, 1928 and 1936 Olympics. He was the younger brother of Maurice Blitz, also a water polo player, and uncle of Gérard Blitz who founded Club Med in 1950. Biography At the 1920 Summer Olympics Blitz won a bronze medal in the 100 m backstroke, and a silver medal with the Belgian water polo team, which also included his brother Maurice. He failed to reach the finals of the 100 m and 4 × 200 m freestyle events. On 16 September 1921 he set a world record in the 400 m backstroke at 5:59.2, that lasted until 1927. At the 1924 Summer Olympics, the Blitz brothers were still part of the Belgian water polo squad. The team won another silver medal. Blitz also finished fourth in the 100 m backstroke swimming event. Gérard Blitz (entrepreneur)
Gérard Blitz (28 February 1912 – 3 March 1990) was a Belgian entrepreneur and Yogi. Born in Antwerp, he was the son of Maurice Blitz and nephew of Gérard Blitz, both members of the Belgian water polo national team who won Olympic medals. He was apolitical during the 1930s, but joined the French resistance in World War II. After the war, he founded Club Med. On 27 April 1950, Gérard Blitz founded the ''Club Méditerranée'' association. In the same year, the first vacation resort for the members of the club was opened on Majorca island, in Spain. Gérard Blitz was also a promoter of yoga practice.
