Blind Date (1950s Game Show)
''Blind Date'' (also known as ''Your Big Moment'') is an American television game show which aired on ABC, NBC, and then DuMont after many years on radio. Format #1 Six men vied for dates with three unseen women by having conversations with them, in a show similar to the future '' The Dating Game''. The men, who were typically either servicemen or college students, were known as the "Hunters" and tried to win a date with the women, known as the "Hunted," for an expense-paid date on the town, which included an invitation to a popular local nightclub. Radio Version In this version, the six men (initially local servicemen) sat on one side of a wall, and the three women sat on the other side. Two men each would have about two minutes to explain by telephone their best points to one woman. Arlene Francis
Arlene Francis (born Arline Francis Kazanjian; October 20, 1907 – May 31, 2001) was an American actress, radio and television talk show host, and game show panelist. She is known for her long-running role as a panelist on the television game show '' What's My Line?'', on which she regularly appeared for 25 years, from 1950 to 1975, on both the network and syndicated versions of the show. Early life Francis was born on October 20, 1907, in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Leah (née Davis) and Aram Kazanjian. Her Armenian father was studying art in Paris at the age of 16 when he learned that both his parents had died in one of the massacres perpetrated by the Ottoman government in Turkey between 1894 and 1896, known as the Hamidian Massacres. He emigrated to the United States and became a portrait photographer, opening his own studio in Boston in the early 20th century. The DuMont Television Network was launched in 1946 and ceased broadcasting in 1956. Allen DuMont, who created the network, preserved most of what it produced in kinescope format. This is a list of programs broadcast by the DuMont Television Network, which operated in the United States from 1942 to 1956. All regularly scheduled programs which were aired on the DuMont network are listed below, regardless of whether they originated at DuMont. Some DuMont network series were actually broadcast from Baltimore's WAAM-TV, Chicago's WGN-TV, Cincinnati's WCPO-TV, or Philadelphia's WFIL.
