"Bleed American" is a song by American Rock music, rock band Jimmy Eat World. It was released in June 2001 as the lead single from their fourth album ''Bleed American'' (retitled ''Jimmy Eat World''). The song was originally titled "Bleed American", but similar to the name change of the album after the September 11 attacks, the song was retitled "Salt Sweat Sugar" after the first line in the song's chorus. Jimmy Eat World
Jimmy Eat World is an American rock band formed in 1993 in Mesa, Arizona. The band is composed of lead vocalist and lead guitarist Jim Adkins, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Tom Linton, bassist Rick Burch, and drummer Zach Lind. They have released ten studio albums, the last nine featuring the current lineup. The four-piece's commercial breakthrough came with the release of several singles from their album '' Bleed American'' (2001), four of which charted within the top 20 positions of the Alternative Songs chart, with " The Middle" reaching No. 1. The album was re-released as ''Jimmy Eat World'' following the September 11 attacks; that name remained until 2008, when it was re-released with its original title returned. Following a lack of recognition for their third studio album ''Clarity (Jimmy Eat World album), Clarity'' (1999) from Capitol Records, Jimmy Eat World departed from the label in late 1999. Aside from working odd jobs, the band toured to raise money for their next album. It was released on February 23, 1999, through Capitol Records, with which Jimmy Eat World clashed several times while recording their second studio album ''Static Prevails'' (1996). 2001 Clear Channel Memorandum
Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, Clear Channel Communications (now iHeartMedia), the largest owner of radio stations in the United States, circulated an internal memorandum containing a list of songs that program directors felt were "lyrically questionable" to play in the aftermath of the attacks.
