Blawan
Jamie Roberts, better known by his stage name Blawan, is an English DJ and record producer from South Yorkshire. He is best known for his track "Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage?" and his remix of the Radiohead track "Bloom", which appeared on their album'' TKOL RMX 1234567'' (2011). He came to prominence with his debut release ''Fram'' on the label Hessle Audio and signed to R&S Records. He also started a hardware-only project Karenn, with fellow R&S producer Pariah. Credited as one of the artists spearheading the industrial techno revival, Blawan's post-dubstep sounds and raw, techno-influenced beats have earned him praise from DJs such as Surgeon and the Black Dog. "Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage?" is a song by the English disc jockey and techno music producer Blawan (Jamie Roberts) on 25 August 2012 as the lead single on the four track revolutions per minute, rpm Phonograph record, vinyl EP ''His He She & She'' on Hinge Finger records. It became an underground dance music hit, regarded for its heavy Time signature, 4/4 bass-drum beat, minimalist instrumentation and its prominent vocal line sampled from a 1996 Fugees song. Before the track became critically and commercially successful, Roberts was a respected but low-key producer slowly building an underground reputation. He worried about being type-cast when the track became a hit, and largely withdrew from live performances and recording over the following three years. ''TKOL RMX 1234567'' is a remix album of songs from the album ''The King of Limbs'' (2011) by the English rock band Radiohead. It was released on 16 September 2011 in Japan and on 10 October 2011 internationally by XL Recordings. The album compiles a series of ''King of Limbs'' remix singles by electronic artists including Jamie xx, Nathan Fake, Four Tet, Caribou, Modeselektor and SBTRKT. The album and singles were also released as downloads through Radiohead's website. Radiohead said they wanted to allow the music to "mutate" by giving it to other artists to remix. Karenn
Karenn is a collaboration between electronic dance music artists Blawan and Pariah, which uses only analogue hardware to perform and create tracks. It was formed in 2011 after the two artists met through DJing at events and releasing records on the same label, R&S Records. They set up their own label to release their music called Works The Long Nights. After a break of five years, Karenn reunited in 2019 to release the ''Kind Of Green'' EP on their new label Voam. Their debut album was written in Berlin during the European summer of 2019 and released the following November. It is called ''Grapefruit Regret'' and has eight tracks. In contrast to previous recordings, Karenn used a drum machine. In 2020, Voam released a 12" called ''Music Sounds Better With Shoe'' by Karenn which features an A-side first heard in their 2014 Boiler Room set. Post-dubstep is an umbrella term applied to a range of musical styles that have been influenced by the sparse, syncopated rhythms and heavy sub-bass of the UK dubstep scene. The breadth of styles associated with the term post-dubstep precluded it from being a specific musical genre in the early 2010s. Such music often references earlier dubstep productions as well as UK garage, 2-step and other forms of underground electronic dance music. Artists producing music that has been described as post-dubstep have also incorporated elements of ambient music and early 2000s R&B. Industrial Techno
Industrial techno is a subgenre of techno and industrial dance music that originated in the 1990s. Characteristically, it incorporates influences from the bleak, noisy sound and aesthetics of early industrial music acts, particularly Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle. American industrial music label Wax Trax! also had a profound influence over the genre's development. The genre has seen a resurgence in the 2010s, spearheaded by acts such as Adam X, Orphx, and Ancient Methods, and others later like Blawan and Karenn. R&S Records is an independent record label founded in 1983 in Ghent, Belgium. R&S represents the initials of Renaat Vandepapeliere and Sabine Maes, the couple that created the label.
