The Blatchley House is a historic house located at 370 Blatchley Road near Jordanville, Herkimer County, New York. Description and history It was built in 1855, and is a two-story, nearly square timber-framed, flat-roofed vernacular Italianate style residence. It has a two-story main block above a high raised basement of cut and dressed limestone, with a two-story flat roofed wing. Jordanville, New York
Jordanville is a hamlet in the town of Warren, Herkimer County, New York, United States. Jordanville is in the northwestern part of Warren, at the intersection of New York State Route 167 and County Route 155. The community was settled by European Americans after the Revolutionary War and before 1791. Its name was derived from the nearby Ocquionis Creek, which was used by settlers for baptisms and likened by them to the Jordan River. History The hamlet was once served by the Southern New York Railroad, an electric trolley line that ran from Oneonta to Mohawk. Gelston Castle This castle was built in 1836 by Harriet Douglas Cruger, with stone sourced from Little Falls, New York. Herkimer County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 60,139. Its county seat is Herkimer. The county was created in 1791 north of the Mohawk River out of part of Montgomery County. It is named after General Nicholas Herkimer, who died from battle wounds in 1777 after taking part in the Battle of Oriskany during the Revolutionary War. Herkimer County is part of the Utica–Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Italianate style was a distinct 19th-century phase in the history of Classical architecture.
