Blasted Church Vineyards
Blasted Church Vineyards, located in Okanagan Falls, is a Canadian winery. It is situated in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley and within the VQA sub-regioSkaha Bench Blasted Church produces over 25,000 cases of wine per year. History In 2002, Proprietors Evelyn & Chris Campbell bought the 2 year old 17-hectare Prpich Hills Winery on the road between Okanagan Falls and Penticton. The winery is named after a local story. In 1929, a church was dismantled in Fairview, via a controlled dynamite explosion which loosened the nails, and reassembled in the center of Okanagan Falls where it now stands. In 2022, an original church pew was acquired from the actual "blasted church" (now Okanagan Falls United Church) and is now located outside of the wine shop to be a resting place to sit and experience the unique history. Okanagan Falls, British Columbia
Okanagan Falls (also known as OK Falls) is a community located on the south end of Skaha Lake in British Columbia. History The community was founded in 1893 as Dogtown, which was derived from the name Dog Lake ("skaha" means "dog" in the Okanagan language). The current name derives from a small set of the falls that used to lie on the Okanagan River at the outlet of Skaha Lake. The falls have since been submerged beneath the lake due to the construction of a dam on the river. In 2012, Okanagan Falls expressed interest in incorporating as a municipality, and in December 2020 the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen approved a study on incorporating the community as a municipality. Canadian wine is wine produced in Canada. Ontario and British Columbia are the two largest wine-producing provinces in Canada, with two-thirds of the Canada's vineyard acreage situated in Ontario. Okanagan Valley (wine)
The Okanagan Valley wine region, located within the region of the same name in the British Columbia Interior, is Canada's second-largest wine producing area. Along with the nearby Similkameen Valley, the approximately of vineyards planted in the Okanagan (2018 data) account for more than 80% of all wine produced in British Columbia, and are second in economic importance for wine production to the Niagara Peninsula of Ontario. Vintners Quality Alliance
Vintners Quality Alliance, or VQA, is a regulatory and appellation system which guarantees the high quality and authenticity of origin for Canadian wines made under that system in British Columbia and Ontario. It is similar to regulatory systems in France (AOC), Spain ( DO), Italy (DOC), and Germany ( QmP). The VQA system allows for sub-appellations, by which the grapes for wines are sourced from extremely specific geographical locations with different soil and climate. Besides wine making equipment, larger wineries may also feature warehouses, bottling lines, laboratories, and large expanses of tanks known as tank farms.
