Augustin-Magloire Blanchet
Augustin Magloire Alexandre Blanchet (22 August 1797 – 25 February 1887) was a French Canadian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the first bishop of the now-defunct Diocese of Walla Walla and of the Diocese of Nesqually in present-day Washington State. Along with his elder brother and other fellow French Canadian missionaries, Blanchet established the Catholic Church presence in Washington State. Jean Blanchet was a Swiss watchmaker who grew up at Lyons in France where his father Pierre Blanchet owned a small watch dial factory. Life and career Since his youth, Jean Blanchet was fascinated by the French and Swiss watch tradition. He launched his own watch manufacturing firm in 1789. From the beginning, his company was successful throughout Europe. He eventually created his own eponymous line of Swiss watches, Blanchet. In 1828 Jean Blanchet married Laura Wilson, the daughter of an English ambassador. One year later she gave birth to their son Yves Blanchet. In the age of 20 Yves decided to go to the Royal School of Watchmaking (École Royale de l'Horlogerie de Cluses). Yves took over the company in 1852, when Jean died during an accident. Joseph-Goderic (Joseph-Godric) Blanchet, (June 7, 1829 – January 1, 1890) was a Canadian physician and politician. He was the only person to serve as both Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada and Speaker of a provincial legislature. He represented Lévis in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal-Conservative member from 1867 to 1873 and from 1879 to 1883; he represented Bellechasse from 1875 to 1878. He also represented Lévis in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1867 to 1875. Biography He was born in Saint-Pierre-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, Lower Canada in 1825. Madeleine Blanchet (born 26 April 1934) is a Canadian doctor. She was an advisor on the Castonguay-Nepveu Commission and helped transform the public health care system in Quebec. Biography Blanchet obtained a bachelor of arts degree at the Convent des Ursulines de Québec and a doctorate in medicine from Université Laval. She also graduated in public health from the Université de Montréal and holds a master of science degree in maternal and child health from Harvard University. She was chief medical officer at the health unit of Hochelaga, Quebec and in 1967 became medical advisor on epidemiology with the Castonguay-Nepveu Commission, conducting a three-year inquiry into the state of health care in the province. Yves-François Blanchet (; born April 16, 1965) is a Canadian politician who has served as leader of the Bloc Québécois (BQ) since 2019. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Beloeil—Chambly since the 2019 election. Before federal politics, Blanchet was in provincial politics, serving as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) for the Parti Québécois (PQ) from 2008 until his defeat in the 2014 election. He was Quebec's Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Wildlife and Parks from December 2012 to April 2014 under Premier Pauline Marois. Blanchet (harpsichord Makers)
The Blanchet family were an extended family of French harpsichord-makers from the late-17th century to the mid-19th century, by which time they had become piano makers. Family members Nicolas Blanchet I (c.1660 - 1731) was born in Reims and by 1686 was living in Paris, where he spent the rest of his life. He became a master instrument-maker in 1689. There was an earlier instrument maker of the same name who worked in Paris in the early 17th century, but it is not known whether the two were related. François-Étienne Blanchet I (c.1695 - 1761) was the second son of Nicolas Blanchet I and followed him in his craft, becoming a full partner in 1722. He lived his life in Paris, as did all his descendants. He married Elisabeth Gobin in 1727 and they had two children.
