Blanche del Carretto (1432 – 1458), was Lady of Monaco by marriage to Catalan, Lord of Monaco Catalan Grimaldi (Catalano Grimaldi) (c. 1415–1457) was Lord of Monaco from 1454 until 1457. When he died in 1457, he was succeeded by their daughter Claudine, then only a child, but the regency government was assigned to Blanche's mother-in-law Pomellina Fregoso rather than to Blanche. Pomellina was deposed by Claudine's cousin Lambert in 1458, who assumed the Lordship of Monaco himself. Claudine or Claudia ( – 19 November 1515) was Lady regnant of Monaco between 1457 and 1458, and the Lady consort of Monaco by marriage to Lord Lambert of Monaco. Life Claudine was the daughter of Blanche del Carretto and Catalan Grimaldi. She was the only child of her father, and thereby his heir. The succession of Monaco was regulated by her paternal grandfather Jean I, who allowed for female succession provided that a female heir kept her own name Grimaldi after marriage and passed it on to her children, and that her husband should take the name and arms of his wife. Claudine's position as heir to the throne of Monaco was further secured by her father. The Adorno family was a noble family of the Republic of Genoa, with the branches of Botta in Milan, several of whom were Doges of the republic. The family is considered one of the most influential in the history of the republic. The elder branch was extinct in 1634, and the titles, fiefdoms and surname were inherited by the Botta family of Milan, which has since been called Botta Adorno. Pomellina Fregoso (1387/88 in Genoa – 1468 in Monaco) was Lady Consort of Monaco by marriage to Jean I, Lord of Monaco, and the mother of Lord Catalan. She served as regent of Monaco several times during the absence of her husband between 1437 and 1441, as well as between 1457 and March 1458, as the guardian of her granddaughter Claudine, Lady of Monaco. The House of Grimaldi ( , also , , ) is the current reigning house of the Principality of Monaco. The house was founded in 1160 by Grimaldo Canella in Genoa and became the ruling house of Monaco when Francesco Grimaldi captured Monaco in 1297.
