Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateur F.C.
Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateur Football Club are a Welsh football club from Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd. They play in the North Wales Coast West Football League Division One, which is in the fifth tier of the Welsh football league system. Founded in 1883, they are given the nickname "The Quarrymen" due to the quarry history around the town. The Quarry Men play their home games at Cae Clyd. History Football has been played in the slate stronghold of Blaenau Ffestiniog since the 1880s when clubs like Festiniog Town, Blue Stars, Festiniog Juniors and Festiniog Athletic played regular friendlies. Ffestiniog became founder members of the Cambrian League in 1896 but football during this period was rarely covered in the press. Blaenau Ffestiniog
Blaenau Ffestiniog is a town in Gwynedd, Wales. Once a slate mining centre in historic Merionethshire, it now relies much on tourists, drawn for instance to the Ffestiniog Railway and Llechwedd Slate Caverns. It reached a population of 12,000 at the peak development of the slate industry, but fell with the decline in demand for slate. The population of the community, including the nearby village Llan Ffestiniog, was 4,875 in the 2011 census: the fourth most populous in Gwynedd after Bangor, Caernarfon and Llandeiniolen. The population not including Llan is now only about 4,000. Etymology and pronunciation The meaning of Blaenau Ffestiniog is "uplands of Ffestiniog". The North Wales Coast West Football League is a football league in Wales, at tiers 4 and 5 of the Welsh football league system in North Wales, founded in 2020. The league is under the control of the North Wales Coast Football Association. The league replaced the former Gwynedd League and Anglesey Leagues, and covers the North West of Wales. The Welsh football league system (or pyramid) is a series of football leagues with regular promotion and relegation between them. While most Welsh clubs play in the Welsh pyramid and most clubs in that pyramid are Welsh, five Welsh clubs play in England, and four English clubs play in Wales.
