Blacktown International Sportspark Oval is an Australian rules football and cricket ground located in Rooty Hill, a suburb in Sydney, Australia. The stadium was constructed in 2009 as part of the Blacktown International Sportspark. It has a capacity of 10,000 people. Australian rules football The venue served as the main training facility for the Australian Football League's Greater Western Sydney Giants from the club's inception in 2010 (including through its AFL senior debut in 2012) until 2014, when the club moved its base to Sydney Olympic Park. Rooty Hill, New South Wales
Rooty Hill is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Rooty Hill is located 42 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Blacktown and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. History Pre-colonial (Aboriginal) era Rooty Hill was broadly inhabited by the Darug people before European settlement. Colonial era The earliest exploration of the area was led by Captain Watkin Tench in 1789. The origin of this name puzzled historians for many years because the clue lay not in Blacktown City but on Norfolk Island. Governor Philip Gidley King had been in charge of the first settlement there in early 1788 and had noted that the hillside where he had built his Government House had been difficult to dig owing to the amount of tree roots beneath the surface. 2011 Australian Football International Cup
The 2011 Australian Football International Cup (or IC21) is the fourth edition of the Australian Football International Cup, an international Australian rules football competition run by the Australian Football League. It was contested between 12 and 27 August 2011 by 18 nations, with games played in both Melbourne and Sydney. Two matches were played as curtain raisers to AFL premiership matches, USA vs South Africa at Stadium Australia and the IC Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Ireland won its second men's championship, and the inaugural women's championship (Ryan Aslett Cup).
