Blacklips
The Blacklips Performance Cult was an avant-garde drag performance group based in New York City's Lower East Side, at the Pyramid Club. The collective was active from summer 1992 to spring 1995. Blacklips was founded in the summer of 1992 by ANOHNI with Johanna Constantine and Psychotic Eve. In a short time, the group had grown to consist of 13 to 20 downtown artists and performers. Blacklips performance Cult started doing shows in the Crow Bar but soon moved to the Pyramid Club, where it would set up different plays each Monday night. The first play was ''The Scarlet Letter'' by ANOHNI, shown for the first and last time 12 October 1992. The last play was ''13 WAYS TO DIE'', which was shown for the first and last time 13 March 1995. Michael Cavadias
Michael Cavadias (born February 16, 1970) is an American actor known for ''Wonder Boys'', the 2012 TV series ''Girls,'' and ''Difficult People'', as well as performing in theatre with the Mabou Mines and Blacklips. Early life and education Cavadias was born in Santa Cruz, California in 1970. Cavadias graduated from the Experimental Theatre Wing at the Tisch School of the Arts and later performed with Mabou Mines. Career Cavadias began his acting career in 1994 when he appeared in ''New York Undercover'' as Ruby. Cavadias developed the character Claywoman at Blacklips and then with Mabou Mines as a part of their resident artist program. He was also a drag performer. Cavadias is most known for his acting work in film, appearing in ''Wonder Boys'', ''Gypsy 83'', and '' Kill Your Darlings''. The Pyramid Club is a nightclub in the East Village of Manhattan, New York City. After opening in 1979, the Pyramid helped define the East Village drag, gay, punk and art scenes of the 1980s. The club is located at 101 Avenue A in Manhattan. History In the '70s and '80s the club became a hangout for "a new breed of politicized drag performers" like Lypsinka, Lady Bunny, and RuPaul, whose first New York City show was at the Pyramid Club in 1982 . On Labor Day 1985, Pyramid performer Lady Bunny hosted the Wigstock Festival in Tompkins Square Park. Andy Warhol and Debbie Harry dropped in the Pyramid to do a feature on the club for MTV, and Madonna appeared at her first AIDS benefit at the club. The term "drag" refers to the performance of exaggerated masculinity, femininity, or other forms of gender expression, usually for entertainment purposes. Howie Pyro
Howie Pyro (born Howard Kusten, June 28, 1960 – May 4, 2022) was an American bass player. He was a founding member of The Blessed, Freaks, D Generation, and PCP Highway. Pyro was also the bass player in Danzig from 2000–2003. Biography Pyro was a DJ at Green Door parties. He was the host of ''Intoxica Radio with Howie Pyro'', an internet radio show where he played "50s and 60s rock and roll, psycho surf, garage, rockabilly, hillbilly horrors, voodoo r & b, insane instrumentals, religious nuts, and teenage hell music." Pyro was also friends with Sid Vicious and was one of the last people to see the former Sex Pistols bassist alive; Pyro was there the night he died from a heroin overdose. Antony And The Johnsons
Antony and the Johnsons is an American music group presenting the work of Anohni and her collaborators. Career British experimental musician David Tibet of Current 93 heard a demo and offered to release Anohni's music through his Durtro label. Anohni started the band, its name inspired by trans activist Marsha P. Johnson. The debut album, ''Antony and the Johnsons'', was released in 1998. In 2001, while still known as Antony Hegarty, Anohni/Hegarty released a short follow-up EP, ''I Fell in Love with a Dead Boy'', which, in addition to the title track, included a cover of "Mysteries of Love", a David Lynch/Angelo Badalamenti song and "Soft Black Stars", a Current 93 cover. Producer Hal Willner heard the EP and played it to Lou Reed, who immediately recruited Hegarty for his project ''The Raven''.
