Blackburn Athletic F.C.
Blackburn Athletic Football Club were formed in 1932 and played at Murrayfield Park, Blackburn, West Lothian. They joined the Midlothian Junior League and in their second season as members (1933–34) won the League Championship, as well as the Marshall Cup and sharing the Rosebery Charity Cup. They were the first West Lothian club to win the Midlothian Junior League. Due to their poor financial state, the club folded during the 1936–37 season. Blackburn, West Lothian
Blackburn is a town in West Lothian, Scotland, near both Bathgate and Livingston, two of the larger towns in the county. It is situated approximately west of Edinburgh and east of Glasgow on the old A8 road. History Blackburn means "the black stream", from the Old English ''blæc'' "black" and ''burna'' "stream". The name was recorded as ''Blachebrine'' in 1152. As a small industrial centre, Blackburn originally developed as a cotton-manufacturing town. In the mid-19th century, it became a centre for coal mining. Its small population expanded rapidly from 4,302 in 1961 to around 9,000 by 1965 as a result of employment opportunities in Bathgate to the north and through in-migration following the inception of the Glasgow Overspill Plan. The closure of the British Leyland plant in 1986 brought decline to the area, along with the destruction of many homes built during the 1960s. Rosebery Charity Cup
The Rosebery Charity Cup was a football competition organised for senior clubs from the East of Scotland. History The tournament was organised by and named for an early patron of Scottish football Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery and received continued support from his son, Harry Primrose, 6th Earl of Rosebery, after Archibald's death in 1929. A charitable competition, the chief beneficiaries of the funds it raised were the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and the Leith Hospital. It was traditionally played as the last games of the season and ran from the 1882–83 season to the 1944–45 season. The trophy is on display in the Heart of Midlothian Museum. West Lothian ( sco, Wast Lowden; gd, Lodainn an Iar) is one of the 32 council areas of Scotland, and was one of its shires of Scotland, historic counties. The county was called Linlithgowshire until 1925. The historic county was bounded geographically by the River Avon, Falkirk, Avon to the west and the River Almond, Lothian, Almond to the east.
