Blackbird (Alkaline Trio Song)
"Blackbird" is a song by American rock band Alkaline Trio. It was released on July 19, 2018, as the first single from their album, '' Is This Thing Cursed?'' (2018). The song was written by Matt Skiba, Dan Andriano, and Derek Grant. Background Much of the band's activities had been put on hold since their 2013 album, '' My Shame Is True'', which had primarily been due to Skiba becoming lead guitarist and vocalist for Blink-182. When the members reconvened however, "Blackbird" was the first song they wrote together. Andriano had initially composed the song's music, and had written politically-inspired lyrics for it. However, these lyrics were scrapped when he sent the music to Skiba, who rewrote the lyrics about a "lady friend of mine". The name of the song comes from the film, '' Public Enemies'', in which John Dillinger refers to his love interest, Billie Frechette as his "blackbird". ''Is This Thing Cursed?'' is the ninth studio album by American punk rock band Alkaline Trio, released on August 31, 2018 on Epitaph Records. Produced and mixed by Cameron Webb, the album was announced alongside the release of the lead single, "Blackbird". It is their first release since 2013's '' My Shame Is True'', their final album to be released on Epitaph. Writing and composition Vocalist and bassist Dan Andriano compared the recording process to that of the band's early days, "the songwriting process is almost like what it was back in the day. We would just kind of write a song, be excited about it, then move on. We wrote in that spirit in the studio. ''Good Mourning'' is the fourth studio album by American punk rock band Alkaline Trio, released May 13, 2003 on Vagrant Records. Background and production Towards the end of May 2002, the band recorded their next album; they "decided that waiting until after Warped Tour would be too long." Recording sessions were held at Cello Studios with producers Joe McGrath and Jerry Finn. The album marks the first appearance of drummer Derek Grant, described by vocalist/guitarist Matt Skiba as "a whole new influence." During recording, both Skiba and vocalist/bassist Dan Andriano were ill. Alkaline Trio had planned a tour with One Man Army in early 2003, but the tour was cancelled due to Skiba having strained vocal chords; the album's recording was subsequently delayed. Evelyn Frechette
Mary Evelyn "Billie" Frechette (September 15, 1907 – January 13, 1969) was an American Menominee singer, waitress, convict, and lecturer known for her personal relationship with the bank robber John Dillinger in the early 1930s. Frechette is known to have been involved with Dillinger for about six months, until her arrest and imprisonment in 1934. She finished two years in prison in 1936, then toured the United States with Dillinger's family for five years with their "Crime Doesn't Pay" show. She married and returned to the Menominee Indian Reservation, where she was born, for a quieter life in her later decades. John Dillinger
John Herbert Dillinger (June 22, 1903 – July 22, 1934) was an American gangster during the Great Depression. He led the Dillinger Gang, which was accused of robbing 24 banks and four police stations. Dillinger was imprisoned several times and escaped twice. He was charged with but not convicted of the murder of an East Chicago, Indiana, police officer, who shot Dillinger in his bullet-proof vest during a shootout; it was the only time Dillinger was charged with homicide. Alkaline Trio is an American punk rock band from Chicago, Illinois. Since 2001, the band has consisted of Matt Skiba (vocals, guitar), Dan Andriano (vocals, bass) and Derek Grant (drums, vocals). Founded in late 1996 by Skiba, bassist Rob Doran, and drummer Glenn Porter, Alkaline Trio released its debut single, "Sundials", in 1997. Following its release, Doran departed from the band and was replaced by Andriano.
