Black On Black (TV Series)
''Black on Black'' was a British television programme broadcast on Channel 4 between 1982 and 1985. Aimed at British African-Caribbean people, ''Black on Black'' was a magazine programme that aired every other week. History ''Black on Black'', commissioned and aired on Channel 4, was produced by London Weekend Television. It was directed by Trevor Hampton. The programme had the first team of black television journalists in Britain, including Julian Henriques, Simi Bedford, Kim Gordon, Elaine Smith and Victor Romero Evans. The programme's producer, Trevor Phillips, articulated what he saw as the programme's contribution in 1982: ''Black on Black'' was presented by Beverley Anderson and (for the 1985 season) Pauline Black. The United States invasion of Grenada began at dawn on 25 October 1983. The United States and a Caribbean Peace Force, coalition of six Caribbean nations invaded the island nation of Grenada, north of Venezuela. Codenamed Operation Urgent Fury by the U.S. military, it resulted in military occupation within a few days. It was triggered by the strife within the People's Revolutionary Government (Grenada), People's Revolutionary Government which resulted in the house arrest and execution of the previous leader and second List of heads of government of Grenada, Prime Minister of Grenada Maurice Bishop, and the establishment of the Revolutionary Military Council with Hudson Austin as Chairman. 1983–1985 Famine In Ethiopia
A widespread famine affected Ethiopia from 1983 to 1985. The worst famine to hit the country in a century, it affected 7.75 million people (out of Ethiopia's 38–40 million) and left approximately 300,000 to 1.2 million dead. 2.5 million people were internally displaced whereas 400,000 refugees left Ethiopia. Almost 200,000 children were orphaned. According to Human Rights Watch, more than half its mortality could be attributed to "human rights abuses causing the famine to come earlier, strike harder and extend further than would otherwise have been the case". Julian Henriques (born 1951) is a British filmmaker, researcher, writer and academic. He is a professor at Goldsmiths, University of London, in the Media and Communications Department, with his particular research interests being culture, technology and reggae sound systems. Biography Julian Henriques was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England; his father, Fernando Henriques, was Jamaican and his mother was of Irish and English descent.
