Black Peter (film)
''Black Peter'' (original Czech title: ''Černý Petr'', known also as ''Peter and Paula''Jaroslav Boček, Šárka Bartošková, Luboš Bartošek, Jan Hořejší and Jiří Havelka: "Modern Czechoslovak film", 1965. It won the Golden Leopard award at the Locarno International Film Festival. Plot Petr, a Czech teenager, begins working as a trainee in theft prevention at a grocery store. He is criticized by his employer for being too conspicuous and then, when he suspects a man of stealing, is too nervous to confront the man so he just follows him through the streets and then returns home, where his father admonishes him because the shop manager had come looking for him. Miloš Forman
Jan Tomáš "Miloš" Forman (; ; 18 February 1932 – 13 April 2018) was a Czech and American film director, screenwriter, actor, and professor who rose to fame in his native Czechoslovakia before emigrating to the United States in 1968. Forman was an important figure in the Czechoslovak New Wave. Film scholars and Czechoslovak authorities saw his 1967 film ''The Firemen's Ball'' as a biting satire on Eastern European Communism. The film was initially shown in theatres in his home country in the more reformist atmosphere of the Prague Spring. However, it was later banned by the Communist government after the invasion by the Warsaw Pact countries in 1968. Forman was subsequently forced to leave Czechoslovakia for the United States, where he continued making films, gaining wider critical and financial success. Vladimír Pucholt
Vladimír Pucholt (born 30 December 1942) is a Czech-Canadian actor and physician. Life Vladimír Pucholt was born in Prague, in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (present-day Czech Republic). His father was a lawyer. He was not allowed to study medicine so he became an actor. After acting in supporting roles in a few films he gained fame as Čenda in Miloš Forman's '' Black Peter''. His next films, ''Starci na chmelu'' and ''Loves of a Blonde'', turned him to one of the most famous young actors in Czechoslovakia. At the height of his popularity he decided to emigrate to the United Kingdom to study medicine. He was admitted to study at the University of Sheffield thanks to a recommendation letter by the film director Lindsay Anderson. The writer John Le Carré lent him money for tuition. Locarno International Film Festival
The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Founded in 1946, the festival screens films in various competitive and non-competitive sections, including feature-length narrative, documentary, short, avant-garde, and retrospective programs. The Piazza Grande section is held in an open-air venue that seats 8,000 spectators. The top prize of the festival is the Golden Leopard, awarded to the best film in the International Competition.
