Black Hole (comics)
''Black Hole'' is a twelve-issue comic book limited series written and illustrated by Charles Burns and published first by Kitchen Sink Press, then Fantagraphics. It was released in collected form in 2005 by Pantheon Books. The story deals with the aftermath of a sexually transmitted disease that causes grotesque mutations in teenagers. Burns has said that the mutations can be read as a metaphor for adolescence, sexual awakening and the transition into adulthood. Publication history ''Black Hole'' was published as a 12-issue comic book limited series between 1995 and 2005. The first four issues were released by Kitchen Sink Press, before the publisher went out of business. Fantagraphics republished the first four issues and the remaining eight. A compiled hardcover volume was released by Pantheon Books in 2005, albeit without the interstitial character portraits from the single issues. Kitchen Sink Press
Kitchen Sink Press was a comic book publishing company founded by Denis Kitchen in 1970. Kitchen Sink Press was a pioneering publisher of underground comics, and was also responsible for numerous republications of classic comic strips in hardcover and softcover volumes. One of their best-known products was the first full reprint of Will Eisner's '' The Spirit''—first in magazine format, then in standard comic book format. The company closed in 1999. History Origins In 1969 Milwaukee artist Denis Kitchen decided to self-publish his comics and cartoons in the magazine ''Mom's Homemade Comics'', inspired in part by the seminal underground comix titles '' Bijou Funnies'' and '' Zap Comix''. The Bornean orangutan (''Pongo pygmaeus'') is a species of orangutan endemic to the island of Borneo. Together with the Sumatran orangutan (''Pongo abelii'') and Tapanuli orangutan (''Pongo tapanuliensis''), it belongs to the only genus of great apes native to Asia. ''Silent Shout'' is the third studio album by Swedish electronic music duo the Knife, released on 17 February 2006 by Rabid Records. The album is darker than its predecessor, '' Deep Cuts'' (2003). It spawned four singles: " Silent Shout", " Marble House", " We Share Our Mothers' Health" and " Like a Pen". The album, the music video for the title track and some of the press photos were inspired by the work of German-American animator Oskar Fischinger and the comic book series ''Black Hole'' by American cartoonist Charles Burns.
