Black Hammer (comics)
''Black Hammer'' is an ongoing American comic series created by writer Jeff Lemire and artist Dean Ormston, published by Dark Horse Comics. Plot Ten years ago, Black Hammer and six other superheroes saved Spiral City from the Anti-God, but in the process became trapped in Rockwood, a timeless ''Twilight Zone''-ish town. Shortly after the heroes arrived, Black Hammer died while trying to escape. In the present, the six heroes live on Black Hammer farm with very little hope of ever escaping Rockwood. Publication history Phase I Jeff Lemire originally conceived of ''Black Hammer'' in 2007, intending to draw the story himself after the end of '' Essex County''. Dean Ormston
Dean Ormston is a British born comic book artist. His most notable work has been for the British comic '' 2000 AD'' and for DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. Biography Ormston was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England and earned a degree in art and illustration at Leeds University sometime around the mid-1980s. For the following few years he spent his time between playing the drums in various bands, some of which released singles and compilation album tracks (The Silent Scream, The second Coming, This Colossal Youth) and working part-time in a Sheffield comic-book shop with fellow budding artists Nick Percival, Greg Staples and filmmaker Lee Ford. Sometime in 1990 he moved into working full-time as an artist working mainly for ''Judge Dredd Megazine''. Hammerverse
Hammerverse (or the ''Slammerverse'', ''Slammers universe'', ''Hammer universe'') is a setting for a series of military science fiction short stories and novels by author David Drake. The series follows the career of a future mercenary tank regiment called ''Hammer's Slammers'', after their leader, Colonel Alois Hammer. As with his other work, Drake borrows plots from historical or mythological sources for many of the Hammer's Slammers stories. For example, he retells the story of Jason and the Argonauts in ''The Voyage'', and part of the Odyssey in ''Cross the Stars''. Limited Series (comics)
In the field of comic books, a limited series is a comics series with a predetermined number of issues. A limited series differs from an ongoing series in that the number of issues is finite and determined before production, and it differs from a One-shot (comics), one shot in that it is composed of multiple issues. The term is often used interchangeably with miniseries (mini-series) and maxiseries (maxi-series), usually depending on the length and number of issues. In Dark Horse Comics' definition of a limited series, "this term primarily applies to a connected series of individual comic books. A limited series refers to a comic book series with a clear beginning, middle and end". A crossover is the placement of two or more otherwise discrete fictional characters, settings, or universes into the context of a single story. Image Comics is an American comic book publisher and is the third largest comic book and graphic novel publisher in the industry in both unit and market share. Yuko Shimizu (illustrator)
Yuko Shimizu (清水裕子) is a Japanese illustrator based in New York City whose work combines Japanese heritage with contemporary reference points. Works by Shimizu address a range of serious issues including sex, race, and cultural identity, but also can be light and whimsical. Early life and education Shimizu was born in Tokyo, Japan, and grew up primarily in Kanagawa Prefecture. At the age of eleven, her father's company moved the family to the United States where they settled in Westchester County, New York and would live there for four years before returning to Japan. According to Shimizu, attending middle school in the US encouraged a sense of individuality in her that she would take back to Japan and that was not customary for women in the Japanese culture of the time. Tyler Crook
Tyler Crook is an American comics artist. He broke into comics in 2011 with ''Petrograd'', written by Philip Gelatt and published by Oni Press, and in 2012 he won the Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award. He is best known for his work on Mike Mignola and John Arcudi's '' B.P.R.D.: Hell on Earth'', '' Harrow County'', which he co-created with Cullen Bunn, and his solo comic book series '' The Lonesome Hunters''. Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is an annual promotional effort by the North American comic book industry to attract new readers to independent comic book stores. It usually takes place on the first Saturday of May and is often cross-promoted with the release of a superhero film. Over two thousand participating stores give away millions of comic books annually. The event was proposed by Joe Field in the August 2001 issue of '' Comics & Games Retailer'' magazine and Free Comic Book Day was launched in 2002, coordinated by the industry's single large distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors.
