Björkö (Korsholm)
Björkö is an island in Korsholm municipality, Finland. It is situated in the Kvarken area of the Gulf of Bothnia. The chief settlement is called Björköby. In addition to the main island, the Björkö area includes 350 skerry, skerries and its total area is 72 km2. In 1973, the Björköby municipality merged to Korsholm. During the Swedish reign over Finland, the island was notable for being a post transport base in the archipelago on the Finnish side. Mail was ferried by the inhabitants of Björkö to the islands of Holmöarna, Sweden. They got reductions in taxes and exemption from military service for this (strategic) service. Ferry services to the regional capital Vaasa began in 1907 and in 1954, a causeway was built to the major island of the archipelago, Replot, which was connected to the mainland by a car ferry. Beryozovye Islands
Beryozovye Islands (russian: Берёзовые острова, Finnish: Koivisto, Swedish: Björkö; literally: "Birch Islands"), alternatively spelled Berezovye Islands, is an island group in Leningrad Oblast, Russia. The islands are situated at the head of the Gulf of Finland, just outside the town of Primorsk on the Karelian Isthmus. There are 15 islands in the group, the largest is Bolshoy Beryozovy (Large Berezovy, Finnish: Koivistonsaari). Other islands include Zapadny Beryozovy (West Beryozovy, Finnish: Tiurinsaari) and Severny Beryozovy (North Beryozovy, Finnish: Piisaari). The total area of the group, stretching along the coast for 200 km, is 92 km². They are protected by the state as a seabird sanctuary and one of the Ramsar sites in Russia. Primorsk, Leningrad Oblast
Primorsk (russian: Примо́рск; fi, Koivisto; sv, Björkö) is a coastal town in Vyborgsky District of Leningrad Oblast, Russia and is the second largest Russian port on the Baltic, after St. Petersburg. It is located on the Karelian Isthmus, west of St. Petersburg, at the northern coast of the Gulf of Finland, near Beryozovye Islands ( fi, Koivusaari (Koivistonsaari), Tiurinsaari ja Piisaari; sv, Björkö) which are protected as a sea bird sanctuary. Korpo
Korpo (; fi, Korppoo ) is an island located in the Turku archipelago. It is a former municipality of Finland. On 1 January 2009, it was consolidated with Houtskär, Iniö, Nagu and Pargas to form the new town of Väståboland. As of 1 January 2012 Väståboland was renamed Pargas (Parainen in Finnish), which is also the name of a town on one of the islands, which has proven somewhat confusing for tourists and visitors to the area. The climate in Korpo is somewhat different from the mainland's climate. It typically has cooler summers than the mainland, but the winters are also less harsh. The archipelago as a whole is considered to have the shortest winter in Finland. Korpo is a favourite tourist destination in Finland and it is home to many summer cottages. Kumlinge is a municipality consisting of a group of islands in Åland, an autonomous territory of Finland. Kumlinge, which is also the name of the largest island in the group, means "rocky passage." Houtskär (; fi, Houtskari ) is an island group and former municipality of Finland. On 1 January 2009, it was consolidated with Iniö, Korpo, Nagu and Pargas to form the municipality of Pargas (briefly named Väståboland). It is located in the Archipelago Sea in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southwest Finland region.
