Bitch And Animal
Bitch and Animal, a duo consisting of musicians Bitch and Animal Prufrock, were a queercore band that performed from 1995 to 2004. They became established while touring as an opening act for Ani DiFranco, and later launched their own highly successful tours. Their first album, ''What's That Smell'', was self-produced and featured some of their best-known songs, such as "Drag King Bar" and (on a hidden track) "Pussy Manifesto". Their next two albums were released on Righteous Babe. '' Eternally Hard'', released in 2001, was co-produced by Ani DiFranco and Wayne Schrengohst and featured "Best Cock on the Block" and "Traffic". Bitch (performer)
Bitch (born Karen Mould; March 30, 1973), also known as Capital B, is an American musician, actress, composer, and performance artist. Best known for her work in Bitch and Animal, John Cameron Mitchell's ''Shortbus'', her work with Canadian folk musician Ferron, and her new project BEACH. Bitch sings and plays numerous instruments, including the ukulele, bass guitar, violin, and keytar—the artist has described her music as "electric violin poet rock". ''Hothead Paisan: Homicidal Lesbian Terrorist'' is an alternative comic written and drawn by Diane DiMassa published 1991–1998. It features the title character generally wreaking violent vengeance on male oppressors. Recurring characters include Hothead's cat Chicken, her wise mystical friend Roz, a talking lamp, and her lover Daphne. Publication The series began in 1991, published under the imprint Giant Ass Publishing, run by DiMassa's partner. The series ran for 21 issues, ending in 1998, and were collected and published as two volumes: ''Hothead Paisan'' and ''The Revenge of Hothead Paisan''. Queercore (or homocore) is a cultural/social movement that began in the mid-1980s as an offshoot of the punk subculture and a music genre that comes from punk rock. It is distinguished by its discontent with society in general, and specifically society's disapproval of the LGBT community. Ferron (born Deborah Foisy on 1 June 1952) is a Canadian-born singer-songwriter and poet. In addition to gaining fame as one of Canada's most respected songwriters, Ferron, who is openly lesbian, became one of the earliest and most influential lyrical songwriters of the women's music circuit, and an important influence on later musicians such as Ani DiFranco, Mary Gauthier and the Indigo Girls. Michigan Womyn's Music Festival
The Michigan Womyn's Music Festival, often referred to as MWMF or Michfest, was a feminist women's music festival held annually from 1976 to 2015 in Oceana County, Michigan, on privately owned woodland near Hart Township referred to as "The Land" by Michfest organizers and attendees. The event was built, staffed, run, and attended exclusively by women, with girls, young boys and toddlers permitted. From 1991, the festival excluded trans women, adopting a "womyn-born womyn" policy, which drew increasing criticism. The festival was picketed by Camp Trans starting in the 1990's for its exclusionary policy. LGBT advocacy group Equality Michigan boycotted the event in 2014.
