Bishorjan (2017 Film)
''Bishorjan'' () is a 2017 Bengali film written and directed by Kaushik Ganguly, produced by Opera Productions. It stars Abir Chatterjee, and Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan. The story revolves around a love story between a Bangladeshi Hindu widow and Indian Muslim businessman, who one day washes up on the Bangladesh side of the Ichamati river. The film was officially selected at the 2017 Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival and was released theatrically on 14 April 2017. It was a critical and commercial success. Bishorjan received six Filmfare East Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Story, and Best Actress, as well as Best Feature Film in Bengali at the ''64th National Film Awards.'' ''Bisarjan'' is a 2012 Bengali drama directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay. The play is based on Rabindranath Tagore's ''Bisarjan'' (1890). Plot Tagore's work was on how humans lost out their paradise trying to satisfy a god who wanted for animal sacrifice. Mukhopadhyay, in this play, has interpreted the theme of sacrifice at various levels. It is a story based around goddess Kali and how the King believes she does not want animal sacrifice. The priest, on the other hand, believes he is considering the goddess a subject of his court that he can control. West Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards commonly referred as WBFJA Awards, is given by The West Bengal Film Journalists' Association. The association was founded in 2013 in Kolkata. The award show is called ''Cinemar Somaborton'' (). Overview WBFJA can be called the successors of BFJA the oldest association of film critics in India, which was founded in 1939. BFJA used to felicitate Indian Cinema every year. In 2013, the last BFJA Awards were held in Kolkata, same year as the WBFJA was founded. That was the time WBFJA decided to be the successor of BFJA by giving awards to the Bengali Cinema in particular.
