It covers a land area of 1,355 square kilometers and has a population of 227,621 of which 87 per cent are Catholics. Its titular patron is St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and its secondary patron is the Santo Niño. Erected in 1974, the diocese has experienced no jurisdictional changes, and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Capiz. Narciso Abellana y Villaver, M.S.C. (born 11 November 1953) is a Filipino Roman Catholic bishop and the current and fifth Bishop of Romblon. Ordained to the priesthood on 28 December 1978, Villaver Abellana was named bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Romblon, Philippines on 15 October 2013. The Romblon Cathedral ( fil, Katedral ng Romblon), officially the Saint Joseph Cathedral Parish ( fil, Parokyang Katedral ni San Jose), is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Romblon town, in the province of Romblon, Philippines. One of the province's known landmarks, it is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Romblon and was declared a National Cultural Treasure in 2001 by the National Museum of the Philippines. The Romblomanon people are the indigenous inhabitants of Romblon province. They are part of the Visayan metaethnicity. Area Romblomanons live mainly in the province of Romblon. However, due to population increase, which the island province's small area couldn't sustain, there are also significant numbers of Romblomanons in Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Masbate, Aklan, Palawan, Capiz, and possible parts of Luzon and Mindanao.
