The Bishop of Middleton is an episcopal title used by a suffragan bishop of the Church of England Diocese of Manchester, in the Province of York, England. The title takes its name after the town of Middleton in Greater Manchester; the See was erected under the Suffragans Nomination Act 1888 by Order in Council dated 10 August 1926. The suffragan has oversight of the archdeaconries of Manchester and Rochdale. Arthur Alston
Arthur Fawssett Alston (30 December 187220 February 1954) was an Anglican bishop, the third Bishop of Middleton (a suffragan bishop in the Church of England Diocese of Manchester) from 1938 until 1943. Born at Sandgate, Kent, the third son of William Evelyn Alston, an army medic and Elizabeth Rouse Alston (nee Fitzgerald), from Sydney, Alston was educated at Clare College, Cambridge (admitted 7 July 1891, matriculated that Michaelmas, graduated Bachelor of Arts 1894 and proceeded Cambridge Master of Arts 1898). He trained for the ministry at Ridley Hall, was ordained a deacon in 1896 and a priest in Peterborough in 1897. For eleven years following ordination, he served curacies: at St Katherine, Northampton (1896–1898); at Faringdon (1898–1905); and at St Simon's, Southsea (1905–1907). Mark Davies (born 12 May 1962) is a British Anglican bishop. Since 2008, he has been the Bishop of Middleton, a suffragan bishop in the Church of England Diocese of Manchester. Early life and education Davies was born on 12 May 1962. After graduating from the College of Ripon and York St John in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons) honours degree awarded by Leeds University, he studied for the Anglican ministry at the College of the Resurrection in Mirfield starting in 1986, where he received a Certificate in Pastoral Theology. The Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf is one of four dioceses in the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East, a province in the Anglican Communion. Michael Augustine Owen Lewis (born 8 June 1953) is an Anglican bishop, born in England, who served in the Middle East. The Bishop of Dover is an episcopal title used by a suffragan bishop of the Church of England Diocese of Canterbury, England. The title takes its name after the town of Dover in Kent. The Bishop of Dover holds the additional title of "Bishop in Canterbury" and is empowered to act almost as if the Bishop of Dover were the diocesan bishop of Canterbury, since the actual diocesan bishop (the Archbishop of Canterbury) is based at Lambeth Palace in London, and thus is frequently away from the diocese, fulfilling national and international duties. Stephen Venner
Stephen Venner (born 19 June 1944) was Bishop of Dover (the bishop with delegated responsibility for the Diocese of Canterbury) from 1999 until 2009. He was also Bishop for the Falkland Islands from 2007 and Bishop to the Forces from 2009 until his retirement from both posts in 2014. Edward Ralph Wickham (called Ted; 3 November 19111994) was a long serving Bishop of Middleton.
