Birbal Singh
Birbal Singh was an Indian freedom fighter from Raisinghnagar, India. He died in firing by police of Bikaner princely state in 1946. Raisinghnagar (then Panwarsar) was a small city in the princely state of Bikaner. This princely state was also ally with the British, who were ruling British India. Birbal was a member of a patriotic organisation named Bikaner Rajya Prishad. Sardul Singh was the ruler of Bikaner. Birbal raised a voice for rights and freedom against the princely state. Birbal (; born Mahesh Das; 1528 16 February 1586), or Raja Birbal, was a Saraswat Hindu Bhatt Brahmin advisor and main commander (''Mukhya Senapati'') of army in the court of the Mughal emperor, Akbar. He is mostly known in the Indian subcontinent for the folk tales which focus on his wit. Birbal was appointed by Akbar as a Minister (Mantri) and used to be a Poet and Singer in around 1556–1562. He had a close association with Emperor Akbar and was one of his most important courtiers, part of a group called the '' navaratnas'' (nine jewels). In February 1586, Birbal led an army to crush an unrest in the north-west Indian subcontinent where he was killed along with many troops in an ambush by the rebel tribe. Bikaner State was a princely state in the Rajputana from 1465 to 1947. The founder of the state, Rao Bika, was the eldest son of Rao Jodha, ruler of Jodhpur. Rao Bika chose to build his own kingdom instead of inheriting his father's. Lieutenant-General Sir Sadul Singh GCSI, GCIE, KStJ, CVO (7 September 1902 – 25 September 1950) was the last reigning Maharaja of Bikaner from 2 February 1943 to 30 March 1949, continuing as Head of the House of Bikaner and holding the title of Maharaja of Bikaner until his death. Biography The eldest surviving son of General Sir Ganga Singh, Sir Sadul Singh had, for the thirty years leading up to his succession, been serving in many important posts for his father.
