Bionectriaceae
The Bionectriaceae are a family of fungi in the order Hypocreales. A 2008 estimate places 35 genera and 281 species in the family. Species in the family tend to grow on plant material, including woody debris, while some species associate with algae, bryophytes, or other fungi. Genera This is a list of the genera in the Bionectriaceae, based on a 2022 review and summary of fungal classification by Wijayawardene and colleagues. Bryocentria
''Bryocentria'' is a genus of fungi in the family Bionectriaceae. The genus was described in 2004 by mycologist Peter Döbbeler. Species in the genus have small orange fruit bodies and excipular cells with pitted walls. They have numerous asci containing two-celled ascospores. Species grow parasitically on bryophytes. The genus originally contained three species: '' B. cyanodesma'', '' B. metzgeriae'', and the type species In zoological nomenclature, a type species (''species typica'') is the species name with which the name of a genus or subgenus is considered to be permanently taxonomically associated, i.e., the species that contains the biological type specimen ... Hypocreales
The Hypocreales are an order of fungi within the class Sordariomycetes. In 2008, it was estimated that it contained some 237 genera, and 2647 species in seven families. Since then, a considerable number of further taxa have been identified, including an additional family, the Stachybotryaceae. According to the Catalog of Life, the Hypocreales contains 6 families, 137 genera, and 1411 species. Species of Hypocreales are usually recognized by their brightly colored, perithecial ascomata, or spore-producing structures. These are often yellow, orange or red. Genera ''incertae sedis'' According to a 2020 review of fungal classification, the following genera within the Hypocreales have an uncertain taxonomic placement (''incertae sedis''), and have not been assigned to any family: *'' Acremoniopsis'' – 1 sp. *'' Berkelella'' – 2 spp. *'' Bulbithecium'' – 1 sp. *'' Cephalosporiopsis'' – 10 spp. *'' Chondronectria'' – 1 sp. *'' Cylindronectria'' – 1 sp. *'' Diploos ...

Geosmithia
''Geosmithia'' is a genus of anamorphic fungi of uncertain familial placement in the order Hypocreales. The genus, circumscribed by Australian mycologist John Pitt in 1979, is widely distributed. A 2008 estimate placed ten species in the genus, but several new species have since been described. Thousand cankers disease, which affects economically important black walnut (''Juglans nigra'') populations in North America, is caused by '' Geosmithia morbida''. Species in the genus are generally similar to those in ''Penicillium'', but can be distinguished from them by forming cylindrical conidia from rough-walled phialides. Additionally, the conidia of ''Geosmithia'' do not have a green color, in contrast to the characteristic blue-grey or green-grey conidia of ''Penicillium''. Some ''Geosmithia'' species have teleomorphic forms that are classified in the genus ''Talaromyces''. However, ''Geosmithia'' is a polyphyletic taxon with evolutionary affinities to at least three groups of th ...
