Biografisch Portaal
The Biografisch Portaal (Biography Portal) is an initiative based at the Huygens Institute for Dutch History in Amsterdam, with the aim of making biographical texts of the Netherlands more accessible. The project was started in February 2010 with material for 40,000 digitized biographies, with the goal to grant digital access to all reliable information about (deceased) people of the Netherlands from the earliest beginnings of history up to modern times. The Netherlands as a geographic term includes former colonies, and the term "people" refers both to people born in the Netherlands and its former colonies, and also to people born elsewhere but active in the Netherlands and its former colonies. , only biographical information about deceased people is included. Roeland Van Eynden
Roeland van Eynden () was a Dutch painter. He was born at Nymegen in 1747, and died at Dordrecht in 1819. Like his brother he devoted but a portion of his time to painting, and is principally known by his works on art and artists, of which the most important is the ''Geschiedenis der Vaderlandsche Schilderkunst,'' written in conjunction with Van der Willigen, and published in 1816–1842. Jacobus van Eynden, also known as Jacobus II, the older brother of Roeland, born at Nymegen in 1733, studied art under his father, and painted principally watercolour pictures of flowers, fruit, animals, and views of towns. He, however, devoted a large portion of his time to science. He died at Nymegen in 1824. Frans van Eynden, uncle of Roeland and Jacobus, born at Nymegen in 1694, studied under Elias van Nymegen at Rotterdam. ''The Lives of Dutch painters and paintresses'', or ''De levens-beschryvingen der Nederlandsche konst-schilders en konst-schilderessen'', as it was originally known in Dutch, is a series of artist biographies with engraved portraits written by the 18th-century painter Jacob Campo Weyerman. It was published in four volumes as a sequel to Arnold Houbraken's own list of biographies known as the Schouburgh. The first volume appeared in 1729, and the last volume was published in 1769. This work is considered to be a very important source of information on 17th-century artists of the Netherlands, specifically those artists who worked in The Hague and in London. Jacob Campo Weyerman
Jacob Campo Weyerman (9 August 1677 – 9 March 1747) was a painter and writer during the period known as the Dutch Enlightenment. His work encompassed flower and fruit still life paintings, satirical magazines, plays, and biographies of painters. He usually signed his paintings with ''Campovivo''. Biography As tradition holds, he was born in a military camp outside Charleroi, where his father fought in the Dutch army against the French. His mother was a very independent woman of Scottish descent, Elisabeth Sommeruell, who kept a ''market tent'' in Charleroi and eventually was able to afford a house in the center of Breda. There he was taught in the arts and on reaching his majority, traveled to London in 1704 and found work at the academy of Godfried Kneller.
