Binna Burra
Binna Burra is a parcel of private land and mountain lodge within the locality of Binna Burra and surrounded by Lamington National Park in Queensland, Australia. It is also a locality in the Scenic Rim Region. The lodge lies in the north-eastern corner of the Lamington Plateau in the McPherson Range, south of Brisbane in the scenic rim hinterland of the Gold Coast. Binna Burra lies within the catchment of the upper Coomera River. It's about 30 minute drive up the mountain from Nerang and a similar distance from Canungra. It is marketed as an ecolodge and was one of the first nature based resorts to be established in Australia. In 2000, the resort was the first commercial accommodation provider to be awarded Green Globe Certification in Australia. Canungra is a rural town and locality in the Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Canungra had a population of 1,229 people. Doug Spowart (born 1953) is a Queensland photographer who has a Master of Photography and is an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). His work has been exhibited in Australia and internationally. He is the author of numerous photography books and artist books. His artist books are held in gallery collections throughout Australia. Early life Spowart was born in 1953 in Numurkah, Victoria, the son of Mervyn and Ruby Spowart. His mother Ruby is an art photographer. Spowart completed his initial photographic training at the Queensland College of Art in the early 1970s. He has continued with his education throughout the years he has worked as a professional photographer. In 1995 he completed an Associate Diploma of Arts at the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE. Vida Lahey
Frances Vida Lahey MBE (1882—1968) was a prominent artist in Queensland, Australia. She exhibited widely from 1902 until 1965. Early life Frances Vida Lahey was born on 26 August 1882 at Pimpama, Queensland, the daughter of David Lahey and his wife, Jane Jemima, (née Walmsley). She had eleven siblings including conservationist Romeo Lahey. She attended Goytelea School at Southport. She studied painting at the Brisbane Central Technical College under Godfrey Rivers. Her uncle financed a trip to New Zealand in 1902 which inspired some of her earliest exhibited works, as well as helping to set her up to study in Melbourne. She studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne under Bernard Hall and Frederick McCubbin in 1905 and again in 1909. During World War I, she travelled to London to be in proximity to her brothers and cousins who were serving with the AIF, as well as to study art when she could. Rodney Hall AM (born 18 November 1935) is an Australian writer. Biography Born in Solihull, Warwickshire, England, Hall came to Australia as a child after World War II and studied at the University of Queensland (1971). In the 1960s Hall began working as a freelance writer, and a book and film reviewer. He also worked as an actor, and was often engaged by the Australian Broadcasting Commission in Brisbane. Between 1967 and 1978 he was the Poetry Editor of ''The Australian''. He began publishing poetry in the 1970s and has since published thirteen novels, including ''Just Relations'' and ''The Island in the Mind''. He lived in Shanghai for a period in the late 1980s. From 1991 to 1994, he served as chair of the Australia Council. Hall lives in Victoria. McPherson Range
The McPherson Range is an extensive mountain range, a spur of the Great Dividing Range, heading in an easterly direction from near Wallangarra to the Pacific Ocean coastline. It forms part of the Scenic Rim on the border between the states of New South Wales and Queensland. Further west of the McPherson Range is the Main Range. Towards the coast the range continues into the Border Ranges and other mountainous terrain formed by the Tweed Volcano.
