Bindal People
The Bindal are an Indigenous Australian people of the state of North Queensland. Language Bindal (''Bendalgubba, Nyawaygi'') is an extinct Australian Aboriginal language of the Pama–Nyungan language family. Bowern suggests that it might have been a Maric language. Gavan Breen has classified it as one of the Lower Burdekin languages yet presumes that one of two Lower Burdekin languages, which he concluded were not Maric, is Bindal. Only some confused word lists survive bearing on Bindal. Country The Bindal's coastal reaches lay around the Burdekin River's outlet into the Coral Sea at Upstart Bay, running northwards as far as Cape Cleveland and inland to the Leichhardt Range. Norman Tindale
Norman Barnett Tindale AO (12 October 1900 – 19 November 1993) was an Australian anthropologist, archaeologist, entomologist and ethnologist. Life Tindale was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1900. His family moved to Tokyo and lived there from 1907 to 1915, where his father worked as an accountant at the Salvation Army mission in Japan. Norman attended the American School in Japan, where his closest friend was Gordon Bowles, a Quaker who, like him, later became an anthropologist. The family returned to Perth in August 1917, and soon after moved to Adelaide where Tindale took up a position as a library cadet at the Adelaide Public Library, together with another cadet, the future physicist, Mark Oliphant. In 1919 he began work as an entomologist at the South Australian Museum. Ayr is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Burdekin, Queensland, Australia. It is the centre of a sugarcane-growing region and the administrative centre for the Burdekin Shire Council. In the , the locality of Ayr had a population of 8,738 people. Geography Ayr is located south of Townsville on the Bruce Highway and away from the (smaller) town of Home Hill. It is north of Bowen and north of Mackay. Ayr is located near the delta of the Burdekin River. Leichhardt Range
The Leichhardt Range, part of the Great Dividing Range, is a mountain range located in North Queensland, Australia. The range runs parallel with the coast about west of Mackay and has an average elevation of . It is composed of a series of rugged hills with folded granite and granodiorite. The age of the rocks vary from Ordovician (490 to 434 million years) to Late Carboniferous (325 to 298 million years). These are interspersed with areas of volcanic rhyolite of the Cambrian Period (545 to 490 million years) at the southern edge. Cape Cleveland Light
Cape Cleveland Light is an active heritage-listed lighthouse located on the northern tip of Cape Cleveland, a promontory projecting into the Coral Sea west of Cleveland Bay in the locality of Cape Cleveland about east of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The lighthouse marks the northern point of the Cape, and the entrance to Cleveland Bay. Establishment Cape Cleveland was named by Captain James Cook in 1770, either in honour of a John Clevland the Secretary to the Admiralty around that time, or after Cleveland, England where he was born. The need for a lighthouse at Cape Cleveland arose with the proclamation of Cleveland Bay as a port of entry in 1865, and the development of Townsville into a major port. Coral Sea
The Coral Sea () is a marginal sea of the South Pacific off the northeast coast of Australia, and classified as an interim Australian bioregion. The Coral Sea extends down the Australian northeast coast. Most of it is protected by the French Natural Park of the Coral Sea (french: Parc Naturel de la Mer de Corail) and the Australian Coral Sea Marine Park.
