Bim (band)
Bim were an English new wave band formed in 1980. They released seven singles between 1980 and 1982, and one album in 1982 on the Swerve record label. History The band were formed in 1980 and consisted of members Cameron McVey (vocals), Stephen Street (bass, percussion), Bobby Henry (guitar), Andy Harley (keyboards) and Brian Wren (drums, percussion). Before Bim, Henry was a singer and released several singles on the A&M and Oval labels. The band played live gigs at venues such as Half Moon in Herne Hill, South London. The 1982 single "Blind Lead the Blind" was produced by Mick Jones of the Clash. Also in 1982, the single "Factory" received lots of airplay on BBC Radio 1. After Bim Cameron McVey went on to become a successful songwriter and producer. New Wave Music
New wave is a loosely defined music genre that encompasses pop-oriented styles from the late 1970s and the 1980s. It was originally used as a catch-all for the various styles of music that emerged after punk rock, including punk itself. Later, critical consensus favored "new wave" as an umbrella term involving many popular music styles of the era, including power pop, synth-pop, ska revival, and more specific forms of punk rock that were less abrasive. Looking Good Diving
"Looking Good Diving" is a 1987 song performed by Morgan-McVey, who were vocalists Jamie Morgan and Cameron McVey. It was their only single. The single was released through Sony Records in 1987, produced by SAW and mixed by Phil Harding. The B-side, "Looking Good Diving with the Wild Bunch", featured Neneh Cherry on vocals, and was a tribute to the 'buffalo stance', a type of pose. "Looking Good Diving with the Wild Bunch" was re-recorded by Cherry in 1988 and released as her debut solo single, "Buffalo Stance". "Buffalo Stance" peaked at No. 3 on the UK chart, and achieved similar success around the world. Morgan says the final SAW version closely followed the structure of their demo, notably keeping the distinctive Phil Ramacon keyboard hook. Blur (band)
Blur are an English rock band formed in London in 1988. The band consists of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree. Their debut album, ''Leisure'' (1991), incorporated the sounds of Madchester and shoegazing. Following a stylistic change influenced by English guitar pop groups such as the Kinks, the Beatles and XTC, Blur released ''Modern Life Is Rubbish'' (1993), ''Parklife'' (1994) and '' The Great Escape'' (1995). Morrissey
Steven Patrick Morrissey (; born 22 May 1959), known professionally as Morrissey, is an English singer and songwriter. He came to prominence as the frontman and lyricist of rock band the Smiths, who were active from 1982 to 1987. Since then, he has pursued a successful solo career. Morrissey's music is characterised by his baritone voice and distinctive lyrics with recurring themes of emotional isolation, sexual longing, self-deprecating and dark humour, and anti-establishment stances. The Smiths
The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. They comprised the singer Morrissey, the guitarist Johnny Marr, the bassist Andy Rourke and the drummer Mike Joyce. CirKus
CirKus are a trip hop band formed by Burt Ford (Cameron McVey), Karmil (aka Matt Kent), Lolita Moon and Neneh Cherry. History DJ and producer Karmil was recruited by Burt Ford (Neneh's husband Cameron McVey) as an assistant recording engineer. They began to work on their own material at Karmil's home studio in London. Ford was singing, then Karmil's girlfriend Lolita Moon (Neneh and Cameron's daughter Tyson) was asked to sing on some tracks. Eventually Neneh Cherry joined the team and performed rapped/sung vocals. Ford and Karmil convinced Cherry to move to Sweden and the band settled in Cherry's country house near Malmö and recorded their first album ''Laylow'', released in 2006. Kitchen Party, formerly known as WooWoos, were a British girl group from London comprising Jessica M-C, Alice Rhodes, and Tanisha Spring. History The original line-up of the group under the name WooWoos comprised Tasie Dharanj, Jessica Martin-Campbell, and Nicky Mac. A press release for the group explained that the name WooWoos referred to "a person readily accepting supernatural, paranormal, occult, or pseudoscientific phenomena". Sugababes
Sugababes are a British girl group composed of Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhán Donaghy. The lineup changed three times before returning to the original lineup in 2011. Formed in 1998 by All Saints manager Ron Tom, Sugababes released their debut album '' One Touch'' through London Records in November 2000, which achieved moderate success and produced the top-ten single " Overload". In 2001, Donaghy departed the group and was replaced by Heidi Range. All Saints (group)
All Saints are an English girl group formed in London in 1993. They were founded as All Saints 1.9.7.5 by music manager Ron Tom, who later also founded Sugababes, with members Melanie Blatt, Shaznay Lewis, and Simone Rainford. The group struggled to find commercial success upon being signed to ZTT Records and were dropped by the label shortly after Rainford left the group. In 1996, the group were joined by Canadian-born sisters Nicole Appleton, Nicole and Natalie Appleton and signed to London Records under their shortened name. Portishead (band)
Portishead () is an English band formed in 1991 in Bristol. The band is named after Portishead, Somerset, eight miles west of Bristol, along the coast. The band comprises vocalist Beth Gibbons, producer Geoff Barrow, and musician Adrian Utley; Dave McDonald, an engineer on their first records, is sometimes cited as the fourth member. Portishead's debut album, '' Dummy'' (1994), fused hip hop production with yearning vocals from Gibbons and an atmospheric, cinematic style reminiscent of spy film soundtracks. Frente!
Frente! (or Frente) were an Australian folk- pop and indie pop group which originally formed in 1989. The original line-up consisted of Simon Austin on guitar and backing vocals, Angie Hart on lead vocals, Tim O'Connor on bass guitar (later replaced by Bill McDonald), and Mark Picton on drums (later replaced by Alastair Barden, then by Peter Luscombe). In August 1991, they issued their debut extended play, ''Whirled'', which included the track, "Labour of Love". Massive Attack are an English trip hop collective formed in 1988 in Bristol by Robert "3D" Del Naja, Adrian "Tricky" Thaws, Andrew "Mushroom" Vowles and Grant "Daddy G" Marshall.
