Billy The Rabbit
Billy the Rabbit is a collaborative album by Australians Gyan and Michael Leunig. released in September 2006, the project involves Gyan adapting several of Leunig's poems to music; with some additional lyrics contributed by Gyan. The album was released on the Muse Agency label containing a booklet of poems and illustrations by Leunig. The album contains a duet with Paul Kelly on the closing track "The Path to Your Door" and contributions from James Cruickshank of The Cruel Sea and Tim Gaze; formerly of Rose Tattoo. Gyan and Leuing launched the album at the Melbourne Writers Festival where Gyan sang and Leunig accompanied her whilst illustrating. The two artists' also performed together at the Byron Bay Writers Festival and performed at the Sydney Opera House in March 2007 and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in June 2007. Gyan Evans
Gyan Evans (born c. 1960), who performs as Gyan (), is an Australian singer-songwriter and record producer. She began her musical career in the Sydney band Haiku before winning the 1986 grand final in the local version of the TV talent quest ''Star Search''. This led to a recording contract with Warner Music, which resulted in her October 1989 debut self-titled album. It peaked in the top 30 on the ARIA Albums Chart and provided "Wait", which reached the top 20 on the ARIA Singles Chart. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1990 she won the ARIA Award for Best New Talent. Early years Gyan Evans was born in about 1960 and was raised in Geelong. Both her parents were English migrants and Gyan is the youngest of their four children. Michael Leunig
Michael Leunig (born 2 June 1945), typically referred to as Leunig (his signature on his cartoons), is an Australian cartoonist. His works include ''The Curly Pyjama Letters'', cartoon books ''The Essential Leunig'', ''The Wayward Leunig'', ''The Stick'', ''Goatperson'', ''Short Notes from the Long History of Happiness'' and ''Curly Verse'', among others and ''The Lot'', a compilation of his 'Curly World' newspaper columns. Leunig has also written a book of prayers, ''When I Talk To You''. He was declared an Australian Living Treasure by the National Trust of Australia in 1999. The Invisible Bird
''Suburban Opera'' is the third studio album by Australian singer-songwriter, Gyan. The album was released in October 2003. The album was originally going to be released under the title ''The Invisible Bird'' with tracks recorded with United States producer, Desmond Child, in 2000 to 2001. The album contains "Don't Hide Your Wild Away", which was released as a promo-only single, and Gyan's version of "Love Is an Army", which was covered by LeAnn Rimes on that artist's album, ''Twisted Angel''. The CD is exclusively available from Gyan's website and features cover art by Australian artist, Michelle Dawson. The download version initially included the bonus track, "Life's Great If You Don't Weaken" which had previously been available on the soundtrack to the Australian film, ''The Nugget''. Paul Kelly (Australian Musician)
Paul Maurice Kelly (born 13 January 1955) is an Australian rock music singer-songwriter and guitarist. He has performed solo, and has led numerous groups, including the Dots, the Coloured Girls, and the Messengers. He has worked with other artists and groups, including associated projects Professor Ratbaggy and Stardust Five. Kelly's music style has ranged from Bluegrass music, bluegrass to studio-oriented dub music, dub reggae, but his core output straddles folk music, folk, rock and country music, country. James Cruickshank
James George Watson, who performed as James Cruickshank (1962 – 8 October 2015), was an Australian musician. He was the long-term guitarist and keyboardist for indie rock group, the Cruel Sea. As a solo artist he released three albums, ''Hymn for Her'' (2003), ''Hello Human'' (2007) and ''Note to Self'' (2011). The Cruel Sea are an Australian indie rock band from Sydney, New South Wales formed in late 1987. Originally an instrumental-only band, they became more popular when fronted by vocalist Tex Perkins (Beasts of Bourbon and solo) in addition to Jim Elliott on drums, Ken Gormly on bass guitar, Dan Rumour on guitar and James Cruickshank on guitar and keyboards. Rose Tattoo
Rose Tattoo are an Australian rock and roll band, now led by Angry Anderson, which formed in Sydney in 1976. Their sound is hard rock mixed with blues rock influences, with songs including "Bad Boy for Love", "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw", "Nice Boys", "We Can't Be Beaten" and "Scarred for Life". Their first four albums were produced by Harry Vanda and George Young who also worked with AC/DC. Melbourne Writers Festival (MWF) is an annual literary festival held in the Australian city of Melbourne, a UNESCO City of Literature. The Festival runs during early September each year. Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre in Sydney. Adelaide Cabaret Festival
The Adelaide Cabaret Festival is an annual arts festival featuring cabaret held in the South Australian capital of Adelaide. It has been held in June each year since 2001, with the exception of 2020 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia, when an online event was presented on Facebook. History Adelaide Cabaret Festival emerged during a period of change and uncertainty. During the late 1990s the number of big stage musicals was in decline across the country. Frank Ford approached then Arts Minister, Diana Laidlaw, who committed funding to establish the first cabaret festival at the Adelaide Festival Centre.
