Billy Lewis Brooks
Billy Lewis Brooks (born 1943; died 2023) was an American jazz percussion player. Brooks moved to Europe in 1964. At the beginning of 1970's, he founded the group El Babaku with the bass player in Berlin, recording one album, ''Live At The Jazz Galerie'', in 1971 for the MPS label. He appeared on two albums with Fritz Pauer: ''Fritz Pauer-Live At The Berlin Jazz Galerie'' (with Jimmy Woode) and ''Water Plants''. Ximo Tebar (March 30, 1963 in Valencia) is a Spanish jazz musician (guitar, composition). Life and works Tebar started taking guitar lessons at the age of seven. His first music genre was flamenco. At the age of 15, he was attracted to Brazilian music. When he was 17, he decided to take up a career in the professional music and founded his own ''Jazz Group''. He won with his group the international competition of the jazz festival Getxo in 1990. In 1989, he played as the representative of Spain in the big band of EBU. Since then, Tebar made regularly international tours with his band or as a solo guitarist. Also, he performed with Lou Bennett in Europe in 1992. In 1995, he made a record contract with Warner Brothers. In 1997, he made a tour with Lou Donaldson, Lonnie Smith, Idris Muhammad and Billy Lewis Brooks. Núria Feliu i Mestres (21 September 1941 – 22 July 2022) was a Spanish Catalan singer and actress, a singular figure of the Nova Cançó movement. Career Feliu was born on 21 September 1941 in the Barcelona neighbourhood of Sants, a neighborhood where she lived her entire life. There she made her earliest theatrical performances; she was part of the "Agrupació Dramàtica de Barcelona" and participated in several children's choirs in the neighborhood. She made her debut as a singer in 1964 with the group "Els Quatre Gats". Feliu released her first two albums the following year, ''Anirem tots cap al cel'' and ''Gent'', with American songs covered in Catalan and soon became part of the Nova Cançó movement. MPS Records
MPS Records was a German jazz record company and label founded in 1968 by Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer. MPS stands for "Musik Produktion Schwarzwald" (Music Production Black Forest). History Originally based in Villingen, MPS was founded as the successor to the SABA record label by Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer, Joachim-Ernst Berendt, Willy Fruth, and Achim Hebgen (who also worked as producers). Founded in 1968, MPS was the first German label to exclusively release jazz recordings. MPS produced and released albums by American, Canadian, European and Japanese jazz artists. Recordings of the JazzFest Berlin, the Donaueschingen Festival and the New Jazz Meeting Baden-Baden were also issued. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. As jazz spread around the world, it drew on national, regional, and local musical cultures, which gave rise to different styles.
