William Glyn (bishop)
William Glyn (1504 – 21 May 1558), also known as William Glynn or William Glynne, was the Bishop of Bangor from 1555 until his death. He was born in Heneglwys, Anglesey and educated at Queens' College, Cambridge, later becoming a fellow of that college and of Trinity. He was elected President of Queens' College in 1553, Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge University in the following year, and Bishop of Bangor in 1555. He had been pragmatic towards the religious changes of the Reformation but probably remained most sympathetic to Catholicism. His brother Geoffrey Glyn had left property and money in his will in 1557 towards the founding of a grammar school in Bangor, which William Glyn and Maurice Griffith, Bishop of Rochester were intended to execute. Both these men were to die the following year before the intention could be executed, but ultimately Friars School, Bangor Friars School is a school in Bangor, Gwynedd, and one of the oldest schools in Wales. William Burns Glynn (1923, Manchester – 24 February 2014, Lima) was a British engineer and researcher of the Pre-Columbian era in Peru., noted for his work investigating possible Pre-Columbian writing. From a young age he was interested in mathematics, as well as French, Latin and ancient Greek. Apart from studying his mother tongue English, he also studied Quechua and Spanish. He was Honorary President of the Greater Academy of the Quechua Language, Cusco, Peru. During World War II he was a communications expert in the Royal Signal Corps and participated in the invasion of Europe. He also provided important services in Lebanon and Palestine. He worked professionally in India. He arrived in Peru in 1956 and became fascinated by the country, interested in the dazzling textile art of the ancient Peruvians and in the Quipus. William Vincent Glynn (July 30, 1925 – January 15, 2013) was an American professional baseball first baseman, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for all or portions of four seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies () and Cleveland Indians –. Glynn threw and batted left-handed, stood tall and weighed . Born in Sussex, New Jersey, Glynn attended Franklin High School, where he played baseball, basketball, and football. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, and began his pro career in . Glynn played for the Utica Blue Sox in , a team that won the Governor's Cup as Eastern League champions. The Blue Sox were then a farm club of the Philadelphia Phillies. He briefly played for the 1949 Phils as a late September call-up. Traded to the Sacramento Solons of the Pacific Coast League after the campaign, he was acquired by the Indians in July of the following season.
