Billy Adamson
Billy Adamson (27 May 1944 – 11 November 2013) was a Scottish musician, best known as the longtime drummer and percussionist for the English pop rock band The Searchers (band), The Searchers. He joined them shortly after their most famous period in 1969 and remained with them until 1998. He also worked with Lulu (singer), Lulu, The Nashville Teens and Junior Campbell. Early life William Adamson was born on 27 May 1944 in Peebles and grew up in Glasgow. His band, the Bellrocks, had featured a talented young singer Marie Lawrie who was eventually to become a major star known by the name of Lulu (singer), Lulu. Peebles
Peebles ( gd, Na Pùballan) is a town in the Scottish Borders, Scotland. It was historically a royal burgh and the county town of Peeblesshire. According to the 2011 census, the population was 8,376 and the estimated population in June 2018 was 9,000. History Initially, a market town, Peebles played a role in the woollen industry of the Borders during the 19th and early-20th centuries. Most mills closed by the 1960s, although the last one remained open until 2015. Marmalade (band)
Marmalade are a Scottish pop rock band originating from the east end of Glasgow, originally formed in 1961 as The Gaylords, and then later billed as Dean Ford and The Gaylords, recording four singles for Columbia (EMI). In 1966 they changed the band's name to The Marmalade, and were credited as such on all of their subsequent recorded releases with CBS Records and Decca Records until 1972. Frank Allen (bassist)
Frank Allen (born Francis Renaud McNeice; 14 December 1943, in Hayes, Middlesex, England) is an English bass guitarist who was a long-time member of The Searchers. Career Frank Allen played bass guitar with Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers and The Searchers (since 1964 when he replaced original bass guitarist Tony Jackson), and remained with them until they played their final gig in 2019. Allen joined Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers as rhythm guitarist in 1961, and changed over to bass guitar in early 1962, following the departure of Ben Jordan. When Tony Jackson left the Searchers in August 1964 after a string of hits (including "Sweets for My Sweet", " Sugar and Spice" and " Needles and Pins"), Allen was asked to join the group. John McNally (musician)
John McNally (born 30 August 1941) is an English guitarist. He was a member of The Searchers, a band he formed in 1959, who were a big part of the Mersey sound in the early 1960s. He was the longest serving member of the group, touring in the band from 1957, until their retirement in 2019, as well as their 2023 farewell tour. Early life McNally was born in Walton, Liverpool. His love for music first came as a child, when his older brother, Frank, would bring back records from the United States, whilst working out at sea in the Navy: John first learned guitar as a child when Georgie McGee, a friend of his older brother, taught him a few guitar chords. Michael John Prendergast (born 3 March 1941), known professionally as Mike Pender, is an English singer and guitarist. He was an original founding member of Merseybeat group the Searchers. He is best known as the lead vocalist on many hit singles by the Searchers, including the song " Needles and Pins" and "What Have They Done to the Rain?". Biography Liverpool-native Pender pursued a solo career after leaving the Searchers and released one solo single before forming his current band, Mike Pender's Searchers who perform songs from his many years with the Searchers in addition to all-new material and a blend of popular rock standards by classic artists such as Buddy Holly, the Drifters and Roy Orbison. ''Second Take'' is the sixth studio album by the English rock band The Searchers and the first with drummer Billy Adamson. Album consists of re-recordings of their earlier hits as well as their last US hit single "Desdemona" from the previous year. Guitarist and vocalist Mike Pender takes the lead as singer on all of the tracks. ''Second Take'' is also the band's first self-produced album. Overview "Desdemona" brought the Searchers back into the charts in the summer and autumn of 1971. Single entered the US Billboard Hot 100, reached No. 94 and stayed for three weeks. On Cashbox went even higher to No. 79. and the song reached No. 28 on Detroit's radio "Keener 13" hitparade (WKNR). So it had been successful enough for RCA Victor to release new album by the group. Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers are a 1960s British rhythm and blues, soul and beat group who had two Top 10 hits with " One Way Love" (No. 9 UK, 1964) and "Got to Get You into My Life" (No. 6 UK, 1966). Well-known members include Bennett himself (vocals, born Clifford Bennett, 4 June 1940, Slough, Berkshire, England) Chas Hodges (keyboards, bass, Mick Burt (drums), Nicky Hopkins (piano) and Moss Groves (tenor saxophone). Screaming Lord Sutch
Screaming Lord Sutch (10 November 1940 – 16 June 1999), who had his name legally changed from David Edward Sutch, was an English musician and perennial parliamentary candidate. He was the founder of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party and served as its leader from 1983 to 1999, during which time he stood in numerous parliamentary elections. He holds the record for contesting the most Parliamentary elections, standing in 39 elections from 1963 to 1997. As a singer, he variously worked with Keith Moon, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, Charlie Watts, John Bonham and Nicky Hopkins, and is known for his recordings with Joe Meek including "Jack the Ripper" (1963).
