Samiam
Samiam (pronounced "sam-I-am") is an American punk rock band from Berkeley, California, active since 1988. History Samiam was formed in late 1988 after the breakup of the Gilman club mainstay Isocracy. Their first show was in January 1989 with Christ on Parade. They released records through New Red Archives and Hopeless Records in the US and Burning Heart Records in Europe. In the mid-'90s, the band had two releases on major labels, Atlantic Records in 1994 and Ignition/Tommy Boy in 1997. This path achieved modest mainstream success; a video for "Capsized" gained considerable airplay on MTV, they performed on ''The Jon Stewart Show'' in 1994 and the single "She Found You" garnered considerable radio play in 1998. Skate Punk
Skate punk (also known as skatecore and skate rock) is a skater subculture and punk rock subgenre that developed in the 1980s. Originally a form of hardcore punk that had been closely associated with skate culture, skate punk evolved into a more melodic genre of punk rock in the 1990s similar to pop punk. Since then, it has predominately featured fast tempos, lead guitar playing (including guitar riffs and guitar solos), fast drumming, and singing (sometimes including vocal harmonies). New Red Archives is an independent record label based in California's San Francisco Bay Area, mainly home to punk rock bands. Started in 1987, the label began by releasing punk and hardcore punk records on coloured vinyl. Starting in summer 1990 after a re-location from Brooklyn, New York, Brooklyn, the label was based out of Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hollywood. In 1996 The label signed an exclusive distribution deal with Dutch East India Trading. By 1998 the label had moved to San Francisco. Starting in the early 2000s the label released CDs as well as vinyl, through the distribution company Mordam Records, Lumberjack Mordam Music Group. ''Clumsy'' is an album by the American band Samiam, released in 1994 on Atlantic Records. The band had been the subject of a bidding war, following the early 1994 success of Green Day; it was Samiam's first album for a major label. ''Clumsys first single was "Capsized". The band promoted the album by opening for Bad Religion on the '' Stranger Than Fiction'' tour. ''Clumsy'' sold around 13,000 copies in its first six months of release.
