Bill Wood (American Football)
William Wallace Wood (November 15, 1894 – August 20, 1966) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Gettysburg College from 1919 to 1926 and at Wesleyan University from 1927 to 1929, compiling a career college football record of 51–36–7. Wood played football at Pennsylvania State College from 1913 to 1915. While coaching at Wesleyan, Wood earned a degree from the Yale Divinity School. Wood was born on November 15, 1894, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. He was ordained a Presbyterian minister and was appointed chaplain at Sailors' Snug Harbor in Staten Island, New York, in 1939. He remained there until 1957, when he retired to a farm in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Bill Wood (9 November 1921 – 11 September 1989) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray in the VFL. Career Prior to joining Footscray he played with South Sydney where he was renowned for his goalkicking, managing 28 goals in a match against Sydney Naval in 1943. Bill Wood (born 4 November 1935) is an Australian politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland and later the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly. He was elected to the Queensland Parliament as the Labor member for Cook in 1969, transferring in 1972 to the new seat of Barron River. He was defeated in 1974 by Country Party candidate Martin Tenni. Bill Wood (born 1941) is an American former baseball executive. He was the general manager (baseball), general manager (GM) of the Houston Astros from 1987 to 1993. He later worked in the front office of the Cincinnati Reds. Early life Wood was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. He studied at the University of Texas and graduated with a degree in business and statistics. Baseball career Wood started in baseball as the assistant general manager for the Albuquerque Dukes, a farm club of the Los Angeles Dodgers, in 1969. He moved within the Dodgers minor league system to serve as general manager of the Daytona Beach (1970) and El Paso teams (1971-72).
