Bill Twomey Jr.
Bill Twomey Jr. (28 September 1927 – 1 October 1996) was an Australian rules footballer, who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Often described as an "enigma", Twomey was, for a time, considered the best centreman in the game. He combined freakish natural talent with exceptional speed, a vice-like grip and spectacular leap. His often perplexing career can be summed up by a three-week stretch during the latter part of the 1948 season. Twomey, having gone unsighted during the first half of Collingwood's semi-final clash versus Footscray, kicked 8 goals in the second half to single-handedly win the match for the Magpies. Such was his impact the Sporting Globe declared Twomey "their greatest match-winning forward since Ron Todd". David Twomey
David Twomey (born 21 February 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A member of Collingwood's famous Twomey family, David is the grandson of Bill Twomey senior and nephew of 1953 premiership players Bill, Mick and Pat. He was recruited to Collingwood from Ivanhoe Amateurs and played his football mostly as a half back flanker. Despite appearing in the 1980 Preliminary Final win, Twomey was omitted from the Grand Final team for Ricky Barham. He did however get to play in the 1981 VFL Grand Final, performing well in a losing side. The 1981 season, was along with 1984, the only time he was able to put together regular appearances. Pat Twomey (2 April 1929 – 22 November 1969) was an Australian rules footballer, who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Pat Twomey joined Collingwood in 1947. Michael John Twomey (25 September 1931 – 14 December 2015) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). At 185cm (6'1") in height, Collingwood's Mick Twomey was taller than his brothers Bill and Pat. Recruited from Yarra Valley, he played most of his 157 VFL games between 1951 and 1961 as a ruckman. In fact he was short for a ruckman; but he had remarkable spring, and newspapers often carried photos of him seeming to soar over opponents. In the 1958 VFL Grand Final, for instance, thhighlights footagefrom Channel 7 shows him contesting ruck hit-outs and marks with opposing ruckmen who were 11 cm and 13 cm taller. Ronald Walford Todd (23 October 1916 – 8 February 1991) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and the Williamstown Football Club in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). Renowned for his high marking and goalkicking ability, Todd was considered as the logical successor to the legendary Gordon Coventry, but his controversial move to Williamstown, along with teammate and friend Des Fothergill, caused much bitterness at Collingwood for many years afterward. He holds the record for the most goals kicked in a VFA season (188), and his 23 goals in the 1939 VFL finals series stood as a record until it was broken by Gary Ablett Sr. in 1989.
