Bill Spackman
E. W. Spackman (1882 – 17 December 1955), known as Bill Spackman, was a British trade unionist. Spackman left school at the age of thirteen, and took his first job running errands for printers. In time, he became a printer himself, and joined the National Union of Printing and Paper Workers. This merged into the National Union of Printing, Bookbinding, Machine Ruling and Paper Workers, and Spackman became chair of its London Central branch, then secretary of the union's printing and paper-making section. When the union was reorganised, he became its organising secretary, then in 1939 he was elected as general secretary.Trades Union Congress, "Obituary: E. W. The General Council of the Trades Union Congress is an elected body which is responsible for carrying out the policies agreed at the annual British Trade Union Congresses (TUC). Organisation The council has 56 members, all of whom must be proposed by one of the unions affiliated to the TUC. Unions with more members receive an automatic allocation of seats, in proportion to their membership. Smaller unions propose candidates for eleven elected seats. In addition, there are separately elected seats: four for women, three for black workers, at least one of whom must be a woman, and one each for young workers, workers with disabilities, and LGBT workers. Tom Newland
Thomas George Newland (2 February 1872 – 14 September 1943) was a British trade union leader. Born in Islington, Newland served with the City Imperial Volunteers during the Second Boer War. After the war, he returned to the UK, where in 1893 he joined the National Amalgamated Society of Printers' Warehousemen and Cutters. He was elected to the union's London Branch Committee in 1901. He first came to prominence in 1905, when he moved a motion in opposition to affiliation to the Labour Representation Committee, objecting to the organisation's support of the middle class candidate Stanton Coit while it did not endorse the candidature of Harry Quelch, a member of the union, who shared Newland's membership of the Social Democratic Federation. Newland was elected as the union's national president in 1908, and became branch secretary the following year. Bill Morrison (trade Unionist)
William Alfred Morrison was a British trade union leader. Morrison became active in the National Union of Printing, Bookbinding and Paper Workers, and in 1938 was elected as secretary of its London Central branch, the largest branch of the union. In this role, he supported C. C. Diels in refusing to work with the ''Mosley News Letter'', a fascist publication put out by Oswald Mosley. Mosley Publications took the two to the High Court, along with the uninvolved Cyril Watt, arguing that they were guilty of conspiracy to prevent their publications being printed, but Morrison and the union activists won the case. Later in the year, he was elected as general secretary of the National Union of Printing, Bookbinding and Paper Workers in 1947, taking 31,515 in the election, compared to 11,290 for Vincent Flynn, and 4,204 for F. George Isaacs
George Alfred Isaacs JP DL (28 May 1883 – 26 April 1979) was a British politician and trades unionist who served in the government of Clement Attlee. Isaacs was born in Finsbury to a Methodist family. He married Flora Beasley (1884–1962), daughter of Richard William Beasley and Mary Ann Brett, in 1905. He worked as a printer and became active in trade union organising early in life, becoming General Secretary of the National Society of Operative Printers and Assistants (NATSOPA) from 1909. This post, which he held for forty years, also took him onto the General Council of the Trades Union Congress. He was also active in the Labour Party.
