Bill Robinson (author)
William Wheeler Robinson (October 4, 1918April 3, 2007) was an American sailor, author and editor well known in the national and international sailing community for his 27 nautical books, speaking engagements, and contributions to nautical publications. Robinson was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and attended Princeton University from 1935 to 1939, graduating with a degree in English. He received a commission in the United States Naval Reserve in 1941 and served as an officer until 1945. He commanded a 110-foot wooden Navy subchaser - hull number SC 743 - in the Pacific theater during World War II - serving honorably in troop and ship convoys and in the invasions of Arawe, New Britain and Hollandia. Red Bank, New Jersey
Red Bank is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. Incorporated in 1908, the community is on the Navesink River, the area's original transportation route to the ocean and other ports. Red Bank is in the New York Metropolitan Area and is a commuter town of New York City. As of the 2020 United States Census, it had a population of 12,936, reflecting an increase of 730 (5.98%) from the 12,206 counted in the 2010 Census, which had in turn increased by 362 (3.06%) from the 11,844 counted in the 2000 Census. Red Bank is the 5th most densely populated town in Monmouth County. Red Bank was formed as a town on March 17, 1870, from parts of Shrewsbury Township. Bronze Star Medal
The Bronze Star Medal (BSM) is a United States Armed Forces decoration awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone. When the medal is awarded by the Army, Air Force, or Space Force for acts of valor in combat, the "V" device is authorized for wear on the medal. When the medal is awarded by the Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard for acts of valor or meritorious service in combat, the Combat "V" is authorized for wear on the medal. Officers from the other Uniformed Services of the United States are eligible to receive this award, as are foreign soldiers who have served with or alongside a service branch of the United States Armed Forces. ''Yachting'' is a monthly English-language magazine published since 1907. It was founded by Oswald Garrison Villard, publisher of the ''New York Evening Post'' and ''The Nation''. Early history On January 1, 1907, publisher Oswald Garrison Villard released the first issue of ''Yachting''. A year later he appointed his “schoolmate and lifelong friend”, 37-year-old Herbert L. Stone, as the magazine's second editor. Stone continued as the editor through a series of ownership changes, except for a brief period during World War I when Stone went to war and Wililam Atkin took over. In 1920 Herbert Stone, Albert Britt and William A. Miles purchased the magazine from Mr. Villard, and sold it to John Clarke Kennedy a few years later.
