Bill Montgomery (Arizona Politician)
William Gerard Montgomery (born March 2, 1967) is an American attorney who has served as a justice of the Arizona Supreme Court since September 2019. He previously served as the County Attorney for Maricopa County, Arizona from 2010 to 2019. Early life Montgomery is a West Point graduate and a Gulf War veteran. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and was awarded the Order of the Coif from the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law in 2001. Career During Montgomery's tenure, the county attorney's office gained national recognition for its Restitution Specialist and Sex Assault Backlog programs. While serving as the County Attorney, Montgomery called for formal written protocols to address use of force incidents and served as the Arizona State Director for the National District Attorneys Association. Arizona Supreme Court
The Arizona Supreme Court is the state supreme court of the U.S. state of Arizona. Sitting in the Supreme Court building in downtown Phoenix, the court consists of a chief justice, a vice chief justice, and five associate justices. Each justice is appointed by the governor of Arizona from a list recommended by a bipartisan commission. Justices stand for retention in an election two years after their appointment and then every six years. They must retire at age 70. Court history The court started in 1912 with 3 justices. Alfred Franklin, Donald L. Cunningham, and Henry D. Ross took office on February 14, 1912 (Valentine's Day). In 1949, the Court expanded from 3 to 5 justices and from 5 to 7 justices in 2016. Terry Goddard
Samuel Pearson Goddard III (born January 29, 1947) is an American attorney and politician. He served as the Mayor of Phoenix from 1984 to 1990, on the Central Arizona Water Conservation District from 2001 to 2003 and as the 24th Attorney General of Arizona from 2003 to 2011. Goddard is a member of the Democratic Party. He has twice run for Governor of Arizona, in 1990 and in 2010. After leaving office as Attorney General, he led his own law firm, Goddard Law Office, PLC. He declined to run for governor for a third time in 2014 and was instead the Democratic nominee for Secretary of State of Arizona in the 2014 elections, losing to Republican State Senator Michele Reagan.
