Bill Moffit
William C. Moffit (born May 12, 1925 in New Philadelphia, Ohio; died March 5, 2008 in Jacksonville, Florida) was an American musician, music arranger and marching band director, best known for his innovations in marching band show techniques and for hundreds of arrangements for marching bands. Moffit was the third director of the Purdue University "All-American" Marching Band, serving from 1981 until his retirement in 1988. After his retirement, Moffit was named Professor Emeritus of Band. Moffit also served as director of the University of Houston Spirit of Houston marching band from 1969 to 1981. Moffit served as assistant director of bands at Michigan State University from 1960 to 1969, where he worked under renowned directors Leonard Falcone and Harry Begian. New Philadelphia is a city in and the county seat of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, United States. The county's largest city, New Philadelphia lies along the Tuscarawas River. Tipp City is a city in Miami County, Ohio, United States just outside Dayton. The population was 9,689 at the 2010 census. Formerly known as Tippecanoe, and then Tippecanoe City. Classic (or "Golden Age") drum and bugle corps are musical ensembles that descended from military bugle and drum units returning from World War I and succeeding wars. Traditionally, drum and bugle corps served as signaling units as early as before the American Civil War, with these signaling units having descended in some fashion from ancient drum and fife corps. With the advent of the radio, bugle signaling units became obsolete and surplus equipment was sold to veteran organizations (such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, two major organizers for classic drum corps). Tippecanoe High School is a public high school in Tipp City, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton. It is the only high school in the Tipp City Exempted Village Schools district.
