Bill McBirnie
Bill McBirnie is a jazz and Latin flautist, based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was raised in the small town of Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada. Career His has studied with Canadian flautist Robert Aitken, American flautist Samuel Baron, and Cuban charanga legend Richard Egues. McBirnie has recorded several albums under his own name. He has also recorded extensively as a sideman, including with Junior Mance, Irakere, Four80East, Memo Acevedo, and Emilie-Claire Barlow. He has been a longstanding contributor to the Woodwinds Column of the Canadian Musician magazine, and was recruited personally by Sir James Galway to serve as his resident Jazz Flute Specialist. He is also author of the book, ''The Technique and Theory of Improvisation: A practical guide for flutists, doublers, and other instrumentalists''. Chucho Valdés
Jesús Valdés Rodríguez, better known as Chucho Valdés (born October 9, 1941), is a Cuban pianist, bandleader, composer and arranger whose career spans over 50 years. An original member of the Orquesta Cubana de Música Moderna, in 1973 he founded the group Irakere, one of Cuba's best-known Latin jazz bands. Both his father, Bebo Valdés, and his son, Chuchito, are pianists as well. Married to Lorena Salcedo since 2009. As a solo artist, he has won seven Grammy Awards and four Latin Grammy Awards. Jacek Kochan (born 1955) is a Polish-born drummer, composer, arranger and music producer. After having started his adventures in music in Poland in the seventies, he moved in the early eighties first to New York City and then to Canada. National Flute Association
The National Flute Association (NFA) is the largest flute organization in the world, with roughly 5,000 members from more than 50 countries. It is an association in the United States with headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. Members include soloists, orchestral players, jazz and world music performers, teachers, adult amateurs, and students of all ages. The organization was founded in 1972 by flutist Mark Thomas and incorporated in 1973 in the state of Indiana. In 1973, an ad-hoc committee was created to help plan a convention of flutists. Robi Botos
Robi Botos is a Hungarian-Canadian jazz pianist. He has recorded several albums as a leader and was the winner of the Concours de Jazz, TD Grand Jazz Award at the 2012 Montreal International Jazz Festival. In 2016, Botos won the JUNO Award for Best Jazz Album of the Year (Solo) for his recording of ''Movin' Forward''. Biography Botos was born in Nyíregyháza to a Roma in Hungary, Roma family, and grew up in Budapest. His first instrument was drums, and at age seven he began playing piano. In 1998 Botos immigrated to Canada and he has been a prominent member of the Toronto jazz scene since.
