Bill May (synchronized Swimmer)
William May (born January 17, 1979) is an American Synchronized swimming, synchronized swimmer. Performing primarily in duets, May won several national and international events. Because of his sex, May was not allowed to compete in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Early career May was born in Syracuse, New York. He became interested in synchronized swimming when he was 10 years old while living in Syracuse, after watching his sister in a beginning class. He explained why he became involved, "I did competitive swimming there and the synchro class was right after it, so we couldn't go home until she was done. It was either try it with her or sit outside the pool and watch her, so my mom told me to try it, just to be in the water and be doing something." May began taking lessons and later performed with a local team, the Syracuse Synchro Cats. After the Synchro Cats disbanded, he performed with the Oswego Lakettes. Darina Ryashidovna Valitova (russian: Дарина Ряшидовна Валитова; born 9 February 1997) is a Russian competitor in Solo and Mixed Duet synchronized swimming. Together with Aleksandr Maltsev, she won a gold medal in the inaugural mixed duet competition at the 2015 World Championships. Career Valitova has been member of the Russian national team since 2007. Aleksandr Evgenyevich Maltsev (russian: Александр Евгеньевич Мальцев, born 22 June 1995) is a 4-time world champion and 6-time European champion in artistic swimming (mixed duet) and a founder of men's artistic swimming in Russia. Aleksandr is the most titled male artistic swimmer in the world. He is recognized as the best male artistic swimmer in the world by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) (2015, 2017, 2019, 2021) and as the best male artistic swimmer in Europe by the European Swimming League (LEN) (2019, 2021). Artistic swimming (known as synchronised swimming until 2017) has been an event at the Summer Olympics since the 1984 Games.
