Bill Kennedy (1942–47 Pitcher)
William Gorman Kennedy (December 22, 1918 – August 20, 1995) was an American professional baseball pitcher. A left-hander and native of Alexandria, Virginia, he appeared in 31 games over parts of three seasons (, –) with the Washington Senators of Major League Baseball. Kennedy was listed as tall and . Kennedy signed with his hometown Senators' organization in 1939. In his first two pro seasons, spent in the Class D Florida State League, he lost 19 games in 1939, then won 19 contests the following year. He led the Class A1 Southern Association in earned run average in 1942 (2.43). That same year, he debuted with the Senators in May, working in eight games (six in relief, losing his only decision and posting a poor 9.00 ERA; he was credited with two saves. He spent 1943 through 1945 in the United States Army, where he served in the European Theater of World War II. William Aulton Kennedy (March 14, 1921 – April 9, 1983), nicknamed "Lefty", was a pitcher for the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Redlegs of Major League Baseball (MLB) between 1948 and 1957. Biography Kennedy was born in Carnesville, Georgia. Signed before the 1939 season as an amateur free agent by the New York Yankees, Kennedy pitched three seasons in the low minors without much distinction before missing the 1943–45 seasons while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Returning to baseball in 1946, Kennedy put together one of the greatest pitching seasons in minor league history for the Rocky Mount Rocks in the Class-D Coastal Plain League. The 25-year-old went 28–3 with a 1.03 ERA over 41 games, striking out a staggering 456 batters in 280.0 innings—the second-highest single-season strikeout total in professional baseball history. William Kennedy (2 February 1912 – 12 December 1989) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a half back with various clubs in the 1930s. Playing career Kennedy was born in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire, Scotland but by 1932 he was a junior player on the south coast of England at Portsmouth. He made a solitary appearance for Portsmouth in their 1931-32 First Division campaign before moving north to Carlisle United in July 1933. He made a handful of appearances for Carlisle before moving in September 1935 to join fellow Third Division North side Crewe Alexandra. In August 1936 he was one of several players signed by Southampton manager George Goss as he attempted to rebuild the team that had struggled for several years in the Second Division. Kennedy formed a useful partnership with fellow half-backs Cyril King and Billy Kingdon, but once again the Saints struggled to avoid relegation, finishing 19th in the table. William James "Wild Bill" Kennedy (March 13, 1919 – December 29, 1998) was an American football player. A native of Lee, Massachusetts, he moved with his family to Detroit at age eight. He played college football for Michigan State College (later known as Michigan State University) from 1939 to 1941. He played at the fullback position until his senior year, when he was moved to the line. Kennedy also played professional football in the National Football League as a guard for the Detroit Lions in 1942 and the Boston Yanks in 1947. William Gene Kennedy (born November 10, 1966) is an American professional basketball referee for the National Basketball Association (NBA). Kennedy graduated from St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Arizona, and Arizona State University. He refereed in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), refereeing the 1995 and 1996 CBA Finals. He began as an NBA referee during the 1995-96 NBA season. He has refereed five NBA Finals games, as well as the 2010 FIBA World Championships and the 2012 Summer Olympics. Kennedy ejected Boston Celtics' coach Doc Rivers from a game on March 17, 2009. Rivers was fined $25,000 for remarks he made about Kennedy after the game, and Kennedy was fined an undisclosed amount for his handling of the situation. William Ray Kennedy (born October 26, 1952) is a Canadian former swimmer who competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics. He swam for Canada's third-place team in the preliminary heats of the men's 4x100-metre medley relay. He was ineligible to receive a medal under the Olympic swimming rules then in effect, however, because he did not swim in the event final. He also competed in the preliminary heats of the men's 200-metre backstroke, but did not advance. Kennedy won a bronze medal in the 100-metre backstroke at the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, and gold medals in the 100-metre backstroke and 4x100-metre medley relay at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland.
