Bill Julian (football Manager)
Joseph William Julian (18 April 1889 – 10 November 1957) was an English football manager. After his playing career was cut short by injury, he became known for his lengthy stint managing clubs in the Netherlands, including Feyenoord, NAC Breda, NEC, MVV Maastricht and Willem II, among others. Career Julian began his playing career in the mid-1900s with his hometown club Boston. He reportedly had a trial with Tottenham Hotspur, but in 1910, suffered a career ending ankle injury. In 1912, he moved to the Netherlands, where his father (also named Bill) had been coaching for the past four years. He managed HBS and UVV for a season each, before the outbreak of the First World War. He returned to the Netherlands in 1919 to manage HBS again, and in 1921, became Feyenoord's first known manager. Boston is a market town and inland port in the borough of the same name in the county of Lincolnshire, England. John William Julian (10 July 1867 – 14 March 1957) was an English football player and coach. Career Born in Boston, Lincolnshire, he first played for his local side Boston Excelsior, then Boston. He impressed in a home match for Boston Town against Royal Arsenal on Good Friday in 1889, and Arsenal then arranged a job for him at the Royal Arsenal factory so that he could play for their team. He played in Arsenal's very first FA Cup tie, against Lyndhurst on 5 October 1889, and soon earned a reputation as a determined and tough-tackling wing-half. He became club captain in 1890, and was still captain when Arsenal turned professional in 1891. However, he was replaced as Arsenal captain in October 1891 by new arrival Sandy Robertson (who had previously played for Preston North End's 1888–89 Double-winning side), and although assured of a place in the first team, he decided to step down to the reserves. Quick 1888 (also referred to as Quick Nijmegen) is an amateur sporting club from Nijmegen, Netherlands. It was founded in 1888 as a cricket club and currently plays football in the third amateur level. As a football club, Quick reached its moment of fame in 1949 when it won the Dutch Cup of which a replica is on display in the club house. TSV NOAD was an association football club based in Tilburg, Netherlands. Founded in 1910, the club played at the highest level of Dutch football between 1918 and 1961. History NOAD was founded on 5 June 1910. Unlike most other clubs in North Brabant, the club was not formed as Roman Catholic but was rather secular. Initially, NOAD mainly played friendly matches against Roman Catholic institutes. Many so-called Roman Catholic clubs were not allowed by the clergy to play the "savages" of NOAD. The first competitive league matches were played as Brabantian Football Association (BVB). In November 1917, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) placed NOAD in the National 2nd Klasse B. GVAV-Rapiditas are a Dutch multi-sport club based in Groningen, Netherlands. Its first association football team competes in the seventh-tier Tweede Klasse since 2015, when it relegated from the Eerste Klasse. From 1954 to 1971, the club featured professional football. The professional branch was spun off and renamed FC Groningen in 1971. History GVAV (Groninger Football and Athletics Association) was founded in 1915. The athletics club Rapiditas followed in 1917. Both club merged on 26 January 1921 under the new name "Groningse sportvereniging GVAV-Rapiditas", whose membership was only open to men. RKSV Groene Ster is a Dutch football club based in Heerlerheide. The club play its home games at Pronsebroek. The club colours, reflected in their crest, kit and name, are green and white. Formed on 2 November 1926, the club have mostly played in the lower tiers of Dutch football, but reached the final of the nationwide KNVB Cup in 1943–44, where they however lost to with a record 9–1 score to winners Willem II. Be Quick 1887 is a football club from Groningen, Netherlands. The club was established in 1887, and is currently playing in the Vierde Divisie. History 19th century Be Quick 1887 was founded on 4 October 1887 by students of a local gymnasium.
