Bill Hale
Bill Hale (1915-2007) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. Hale was a big front row forward who played at St. George with his younger brother Jim Hale. His career was interrupted when he was moved around N.S.W. due to his employment in the Police Force. Bill Hale played two seasons of first grade: 1936 and 1940, although he did feature in the lower grades in 1939. He later became the captain/coach of Nowra before retiring from Rugby League. Araluen, New South Wales
Araluen is a small town near Braidwood in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia, in Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council. It lies in the valley of Araluen Creek, that joins the Deua River at roughly the midpoint in its course. At the , Araluen had a population of 209 people. Etymology The area now known as Araluen lies on the traditional lands of the Walbanga people, a group of the Yuin. The name 'Araluen' meant 'water lily' or 'place of the water lilies' in the local Aboriginal language. Gold mining At the time of European settlement Araluen was described as a broad alluvial valley with many natural billabongs covered with water lilies. Georges Hall, a suburb of local government area City of Canterbury-Bankstown, is located 24 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district in the state of New South Wales, Australia, and is part of the South-western Sydney region. Jim Hale
James Alfred Hale (1916-1992) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s. Career Hale was graded with the South Sydney club in 1940 and switched mid-season to join St. George with whom he played seven seasons between 1941 and 1947. He is remembered as the second-row forward in the St George side that was defeated in the 1946 Grand Final by Balmain. At the end of the game, Jim Hale and his ex team-mate Herb Gilbert, Jr. were involved in a brawl when a spectator jumped onto the Sydney Cricket Ground playing area and punched Hale. The incident almost caused a riot amongst rival players and fans and resulted in a number of arrests by police. Hale, like his father Percy (1887-1953), was an amateur heavy-weight boxer, and the brawl between him and Gilbert was a huge talking point in the Sydney press for days afterward.
