We Are The World
"We Are the World" is a charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album ''We Are the World''. With sales in excess of 20 million copies, it is the eighth- bestselling physical single of all time. Soon after the UK-based group Band Aid released "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in December 1984, the musician and activist Harry Belafonte began to think about an American benefit single for African famine relief. He enlisted fundraiser Ken Kragen to help bring the vision to reality. The duo contacted several musicians, and enlisted Jackson and Richie to write the song; they completed the writing seven weeks after the release of "Do They Know It's Christmas?", and only one night before "We Are the World"'s first recording session, on January 21, 1985. The historic event brought together some of the era's best-known musicians. The song was r ...

USA For Africa
United Support of Artists for Africa (USA for Africa) was the name under which 47 predominantly U.S. artists, led by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, recorded the hit single "We Are the World" in 1985. The song was a U.S. and UK number one for the collective in April of that year. The idea started when Harry Belafonte was inspired by Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?". Belafonte then contacted Ken Kragen to recruit participants. Soon after, Quincy Jones was hired to conduct and co-produce the album. The considerable profits from the enterprise went to the USA for Africa Foundation, which used them for the relief of famine and disease in Africa and specifically to 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia. USA for Africa also held a benefit event, Hands Across America, in which approximately seven million people held hands in a human chain for fifteen minutes along a path across the continental United States. Participants paid ten dollars to stand in line and the money raised w ...

Perfect World (Huey Lewis And The News Song)
"Perfect World" is a song performed by Huey Lewis and the News and released as the first single from the album '' Small World'' in late June 1988. The single peaked at number three on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and #48 on the UK Singles Chart. History The song was written by Alex Call, a former bandmate of Lewis and Sean Hopper from the band, Clover. Call had previously co-written the hit song "867-5309/Jenny" for Tommy Tutone. Huey Lewis gave the song a reggae flavor. The song is an optimistic commentary on a human being's hopes and dreams, as well as our private thoughts. The song tells the person to "keep on dreaming," because there will never be a perfect world. The song admits that life isn't perfect, but tells the listener to use the power of positive dreaming to cope with the reality. The B-side to the single was an instrumental album track, "Slammin'". Music video The music video features the band playing on a stage in a garbage dump field, with various pieces of garb ...

Doing It All For My Baby
"Doing It All for My Baby" is a song performed by Huey Lewis and the News, released as a single from the album ''Fore!'' in 1987. The single peaked at number six on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 on September 19, 1987, becoming the fifth top-ten hit from the album and making the band the first group to have five top-ten Hot 100 singles from one album. History The song was written by Mike Duke and Phil Cody. Duke wrote the song and then recorded vocals himself (with Huey Lewis and the News playing backing parts and instruments) with the intention of getting a record contract for his own solo career. When that plan fell through, Lewis decided to record a version with his own vocals for the album. Duke had previously written the song, " Hope You Love Me Like You Say You Do", the News' second top 40 hit from the 1982 album, '' Picture This'', and went on to write, "Let Her Go and Start Over," a minor adult contemporary hit for the band, from the album, ''Plan B'', in 2001. '' Cash ...

The Heart Of Rock & Roll
"The Heart of Rock & Roll" is a song performed by Huey Lewis and the News, released as the third single from their 1983 album ''Sports'' in 1984. The single peaked at number six on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Background The song was inspired by a gig the band played in Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland, at the time was known for its rock scene, but the band remained defiant of this claim believing their home town of San Francisco had the better scene. After playing the show Lewis relented, with initially the title phrase being "The heart of rock and roll is in Cleveland", based on a comment Lewis made to the band, but he changed it to "The heart of rock and roll is still beating". According to him the message of the song is "There's real rock and roll in other places than LA or New York." The B-side to the single is a live version of "Workin' for a Livin'".
