Bill Dunster
William Robert Dunster OBE (born 9 July 1960 ) is a British architect. Prior to forming Zedfactory, Dunster worked for Hopkins Architects for over 14 years specialising in low energy and sustainable development. While an associate at Hopkins he worked on Nottingham University's Jubilee Campus. As project architect in charge, he took the scheme from the initial competition bid through to completion. Opened in December 1999 by HM the Queen the campus has since been awarded the RIBA Sustainability Award 2001. Before Nottingham he developed the environmental strategy and detailed façade design for Portcullis House. This work followed 4 years of research in the European Union funded Joule Research Project, collaborating with the leading environmental consultants in Europe, including Arup, CSTB Nantes, Christian Bartenbach and Conphoebus. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. Hopkins Architects
Hopkins Architects (formerly Michael Hopkins and Partners) is a prominent British architectural firm established by architects Sir Michael and Patricia, Lady Hopkins. Background The practice was established in 1976 by Michael and Patty Hopkins and is now run by five Principals. The practice has won many awards for its work and has been shortlisted for the Stirling Prize three times, including in 2011 for the London 2012 Velodrome, in 2006 for Evelina Children's Hospital and in 2001 for Portcullis House and Westminster Underground Station. The founders were awarded the Royal Institute of British Architects Royal Gold Medal in 1994 and Michael Hopkins was appointed a CBE and knighted for services to architecture. UK Green Building Council
The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) is a United Kingdom membership organisation, formed in 2007, which aims to 'radically transform' the way that the built environment in the UK is planned, designed, constructed, maintained and operated. The council is concerned about the environmental impact of buildings and infrastructure on the environment, in particular the use of water, materials, energy, the impact of greenhouse gas emissions, and the health of building occupants. Ecological Footprint
The ecological footprint is a method promoted by the Global Footprint Network to measure human demand on natural capital, i.e. the quantity of nature it takes to support people or an economy. It tracks this demand through an ecological accounting system. The accounts contrast the biologically productive area people use for their consumption to the biologically productive area available within a region or the world (biocapacity, the productive area that can regenerate what people demand from nature). In short, it is a measure of human impact on the environment. Footprint and biocapacity can be compared at the individual, regional, national or global scale. Both footprint and biocapacity change every year with number of people, per person consumption, efficiency of production, and productivity of ecosystems.
