Bihor Region
Bihor Region (Regiunea Bihor) was one of the newly established (in 1950) administrative divisions of the People's Republic of Romania, copied after the Soviet style of territorial organisation. History The capital of the region was Oradea, and its territory comprised an area similar to the nowadays Bihor County. In 1952 its name was changed to Oradea, and in 1956 after the dissolution of Arad Region it included raions Ineu, Criș, and Gurahonț of it. In 1960 it was renamed Crișana. Communist Romania
The Socialist Republic of Romania ( ro, Republica Socialistă România, RSR) was a Marxist–Leninist one-party socialist state that existed officially in Romania from 1947 to 1989. From 1947 to 1965, the state was known as the Romanian People's Republic (, RPR). The country was an Eastern Bloc state and a member of the Warsaw Pact with a dominant role for the Romanian Communist Party enshrined in its constitutions. Oradea
Oradea (, , ; german: Großwardein ; hu, Nagyvárad ) is a city in Romania, located in Crișana, a sub-region of Transylvania. The seat of Bihor County, Oradea is one of the most important economic, social and cultural centers in the western part of Romania. Bihor County
Bihor County () is a county (județ) in western Romania. With a total area of , Bihor is Romania's 6th largest county geographically and the main county in the historical region of Crișana. Its capital city is Oradea. Toponymy The origin of the name Bihor is uncertain, except that it likely takes its name from an ancient fortress in the current commune of Biharia. It possibly came from ''vihor'', the Serbian and Ukrainian word for "whirlwind" (вихор), or Slavic ''biela hora'', meaning "white mountain". Another theory is that Biharea is of Daco-Thracian etymology (''bi'' meaning "two" and ''harati'' "take" or "lead"), possibly meaning two possessions of land in the Duchy of Menumorut. Arad Region (Regiunea Arad) was one of the newly established (in 1950) administrative divisions of the People's Republic of Romania, copied after the Soviet style of territorial organisation. It existed until 1956, when its territory was divided between the Timișoara Region and Oradea Region. Raion
A raion (also spelt rayon) is a type of administrative unit of several post-Soviet states. The term is used for both a type of subnational entity and a division of a city. The word is from the French (meaning 'honeycomb, department'), and is commonly translated as " district" in English. A raion is a standardized administrative entity across most of the former Soviet Union and is usually a subdivision two steps below the national level, such as a subdivision of an oblast. However, in smaller USSR republics, it could be the primary level of administrative division. Cluj Region
Regiunea Cluj (Cluj Region) was one of the administrative divisions of the People's Republic of Romania, established on September 6, 1950 by Law nr. 5, and set after the Soviet style. History The capital of the region was the city of Cluj, and at first, its territory comprised an area slightly smaller than the nowadays Cluj and Sălaj counties. On September 19, 1952, the administrative regions of Romania were reorganized by Decree nr. 331. The Cluj Region assimilated the southern raion of the dissolved Rodna Region and a rayon from the reorganised Mureș Region, reaching an area slightly smaller than nowadays Cluj, Sălaj, and Bistrița-Năsăud counties. Regiunea Baia Mare (Baia Mare Region) was one of the newly established (in 1950) administrative divisions of the People's Republic of Romania, copied after the Soviet style of territorial organization.
