Big Spring, Kentucky is an unincorporated community in Breckinridge County (west part) in the Central Time Zone, as well as in Meade County (northeast part) and Hardin County (southeast part) in the Eastern Time Zone in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Big Spring takes its name from a spring which emerges near the town site, then sinks underground. A post office was established for the community in 1826. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Charles Harwood Moorman
Charles Harwood Moorman (April 24, 1876 – January 26, 1938) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and previously was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. Education and career Born in Big Spring, Kentucky, Moorman read law to enter the bar in 1900. He was in private practice in Elizabethtown, Kentucky from 1900 to 1906, and then in Louisville, Kentucky until 1921. He volunteered with the American Red Cross in France during World War I from 1917 to 1918, and was a Major in the United States Army JAG Corps in 1918. He was a Judge of the Kentucky Court of Appeals from 1921 to 1923. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is Kentucky's state-funded agency charged with building and maintaining federal highways and Kentucky state highways, as well as regulating other transportation related issues. Area code 270 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the Commonwealth of Kentucky's western and south central counties. Area code 270 was split from area code 502 on April 19, 1999. Planning for the introduction of a second area code for the region, area code 364, was assigned in 2007.
