Big Shot (ride)
Big Shot (Formerly known as Space Shot) is a pneumatically powered tower ride. It was at one time the world's highest amusement ride in terms of overall elevation above ground level, but has since been surpassed by the Sky Drop rise atop the Canton Tower in Guangzhou. The tower is built atop the high deck of The Strat in Las Vegas, Nevada. History The ride opened on April 29, 1996, in a special VIP gala opening, one day before the ride and casino opened to the general public. Big Shot was one of the first two amusement rides to open on the Stratosphere tower at the casino opening (the other being High Roller). Space Shot is a type of amusement ride manufactured by S&S - Sansei Technologies. The ride is a Drop tower (ride), drop tower type attraction that uses compressed air to rapidly propel riders up the tower then gently lower them with a series of air-cushioned bounces back to the loading platform. The first space shot to be built in the United States was the Spaceshot at D&D Adventure, a now defunct family entertainment center. X-Scream
X-Scream is a ride at the top of the Strat SkyPod in Las Vegas, Nevada. At a height of approximately , the world's third highest amusement ride, located on top of The Strat. The name of the ride is a play on the word ''extreme''. Ride experience X-Scream consists of a straight piece of track similar to that of a conventional roller coaster, which carries a single open top car. This trackway pivots vertically in a see-saw motion, letting the car roll backward and forward along the length. The ride car is allowed to roll quickly forward to the end of the track, past the edge of the building, before braking sharply. The rolling back and forth of the car and the rocking of the track is programmed to take the rider by surprise and feel like they are at risk of falling from the precipice of the building. As part of its grand opening event, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman presented a written proclamation deeming April 20, 2010 as SkyJump Day in Las Vegas. Ride experience SkyJump Las Vegas is a controlled decelerator descent. Riders of SkyJump Las Vegas are given a short safety lesson and suited up in a The Strat custom “jump suit”. The rider is then connected to a patented highspeed “descender” machine and led to the edge of a small platform where they will leap out and descend the Strat SkyPod. A drop tower or big drop is a type of amusement ride incorporating a central structure or tower. Drop towers vary in height, passenger capacity, lift type, and brake type. Many are custom-made, although there are some mass-produced designs. The most widely sold drop towers have been manufactured by Intamin and S&S Sansei, however Larson International and Funtime have their own drop tower models available as well. Riders initially experience free fall, followed by rapid heavy deceleration.
