''Big Guns'' is a British crime television series which originally aired on the BBC in 1958.''Radio Times'' p.17 The show was based on the character of Detective Superintendent Charlesworth, played by Wensley Pithey, who had featured a previous series '' Mister Charlesworth'' and would go on to appear further series including ''Charlesworth at Large'' and '' Charlesworth''. Berkely Mather
John Evan Weston-Davies (25 February 1909 – 7 April 1996), known as Berkely Mather, was a British writer who wrote fifteen published novels and a book of short stories. He also wrote for radio, television and film. Biography Shortly before World War I, Mather's family emigrated to Australia, where he received his education. He studied medicine, the family profession at Sydney University. Finding himself in England without prospects at the height of the Great Depression, he enlisted in the Royal Horse Artillery, but failed to gain a commission. He therefore applied to join the Indian Army, in which he rose through the ranks, becoming a sergeant at the outbreak of World War II in 1939. He served in the Iraq campaign under Slim, and ended the war as an acting lieutenant-colonel. Danny Green (actor)
Danny Green (26 May 1903 – 1973) was an English character actor. He was best known for his role as the slow-witted ex-boxer "One-Round" Lawson in '' The Ladykillers''. He worked regularly in film, television and on the stage, including playing comic gangsters in the original London productions of ''Guys and Dolls'' (1953) and '' Do Re Mi'' (1961). One of his last roles was as ''Lord Surrey'' in the '' Randal and Hopkirk'' episode ''Just for the Record'' in 1969. ''Radio Times'' (currently styled as ''RadioTimes'') is a British weekly listings magazine devoted to television and radio programme schedules, with other features such as interviews, film reviews and lifestyle items. Alfred Lynch
Alfred Cornelius Lynch (26 January 1931 – 16 December 2003) was an English actor on stage, film and television. Early life Lynch was born in Whitechapel, London, the son of a plumber. After attending a Catholic school, he worked in a drawing office as a draughtsman before entering national service. Then, whilst working in a factory, he attended theatre acting evening classes, at which he met his life partner, James Culliford. Stage In 1958 he joined the Royal Court Theatre and acted in a number of plays, including original productions of ''Chicken Soup with Barley'' and ''The Kitchen'' by Arnold Wesker. Lynch also starred in Joan Littlewood’s production of Brendan Behan’s ''The Hostage'' in London and New York, in which critic Kenneth Tynan praised his "beautiful playing". Anthony Sagar
Anthony Sagar (19 June 1920 – 24 January 1973) was an English character actor and a member of the National Theatre. He was prolific screen performer and appeared in many films (including seven of the ''Carry On'' series) and television series including the 1959 adaptation of ''The Moonstone'', ''Steptoe and Son'', '' The Avengers'' and ''Dad's Army''. Leslie Perrins
Leslie Perrins (7 October 1901 – 13 December 1962) was an English actor who often played villains. After training at RADA, he was on stage from 1922, and in his long career, appeared in well over 60 films. Hobbies Perrins and wife Violet were dog lovers, and he was a judge at Crufts in 1957, and president of the Welsh Corgi League from 1956 until his death. Their annual award, "The Leslie Perrins Memorial Trophy," is named after him. He wrote a book called 'Keeping a Corgi'. It was published in 1958. Frederick Jaeger
Manfred Frederick Jaeger (9 May 1928 – 18 June 2004) was a German-born British film, television, theatre and radio character actor. Biography Jaeger was born in Berlin, Germany, but moved to England following Adolf Hitler's rise to power. He was educated at Lord Weymouth's Grammar School, Warminster, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, from which he graduated in 1948, becoming a British subject two years later. He made his first theatre appearance in 1949, and his film debut, ''The Black Tent'', in 1956. He went on to make further film, television and radio appearances until retiring in 1996. He died in June 2004 aged 76. He is well remembered by fans of the science fiction series ''Doctor Who'' for his roles in three serials. Sidney Charles Bromley (24 July 1909 – 14 August 1987GRO Register of Deaths: AUG 1987 18 2293 WORTHING - Sydney Charles Bromley DoB = 24 Jul 1909 aged 78), credited as Sydney Bromley, was an English character actor. He appeared in more than sixty films and television programmes. On stage, he appeared in the 1924 premiere of '' Saint Joan'', by George Bernard Shaw, as well as the 1957 film of the same name. He appeared in ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' and ''Twelfth Night'' during the summer of 1935 at the Open Air Theatre in London. Bromley was diagnosed with terminal cancer in July 1986 and died from the illness on 14 August 1987, aged 78.
